THIS DAY IN HISTORY: Dr. Bernard A. Harris became the first black astronaut to take a spacewalk on this day in 1995. Mr. Harris was the Payload Commander on STS-63 (February 2-11, 1995) - the first flight of a joint American and Russian space program.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: Any student wishing to take AP Art Studio next year, must submit a portfolio of work to the Art Department by Wednesday, February 17. See Ms. Diem in A-1 for any questions.
The ASVAB test will be given to all interested students on February 22 from 9-12 in the library. The ASVAB is a free test that will prepare you for SAT and college entrance exams, and will give you an idea of the type of career you might be best suited for. Come to the Career Center to sign up for the ASVAB.
DHS has a new online store: The Blue Devil Online Store! https://BlueDevilOnlineStore.myschoolcentral.com. When you first visit the site, you can create an account. A great feature of the Blue Devil Online Store is that parents can add their students to their accounts. When you create an account at the BlueDevilOnlineStore, your username will be the email address that you enter. Student specific items, like AP Tests, can only be purchased by/for students who are in the database. All students attending DSHS are in the data base. In addition, we have all other DJUSD student in grades 10-11-12 (such as DaVinci students) in the database. We currently have AP tests available for purchase - take a look! Auditions information for the 2016-2017 DHS Symphonic and Jazz Bands is now available at the DHS Band Boosters Website, DHSBandBoosters.com. If you have questions, see Mr. Slabaugh in Room PA-3.
Please place recycle materials in proper containers. The cardboard bin is near the trash dumpster. If you don't know, please ask somebody. Davis Waste Removal will not dump containers with improper materials.

Applications are now available to seniors interested in giving a speech during the 2016 Graduation Ceremony. Please ask Ms. Carmen Schnathorst for a Graduation Speech Application. The application and typewritten speech are due April 1, 2016 by 4p.m. Finalists will be invited to a live audition the week of April 11, 2016. Speakers will be chosen and notified by April 22, 2016.
Attention AP Students: AP exams are available for purchase in the Webstore now! $97 per test. No refunds, so purchase carefully. Stay tuned for more information, including dates for in person sales in March.
If you are a junior boy or junior girl interested in government, come to the Career Center to apply for the American Legion Boys State and Girls State all-expense paid summer programs. Students will actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government. Those who apply must be strong academically, have leadership skills and an interest in community and government. Deadline to apply is February 12. Applications are available in the Career Center.
The Davis Homeless Shelter needs your help! Items needed include warm clothes, canned or non-perishable foods and soaps and shampoos. There is a donation box inside the Front Office.
CLUBS: Are you interested in learning more about a TEDX event right here at DHS? Do you want to speak at or plan the event? Come to P-25 every Friday to learn more and help with the event!
