*THIS DAY IN HISTORY**:  *1914 - The American Society of Composers, Authors
and Publishers (known as ASCAP) was formed in New York City. The society
was founded to protect the copyrighted musical compositions of its members.

*Independent Lifetime Sports*:  If you are planning on earning your PE
credits through your spring sport, please plan to attend the mandatory
information meeting on Wednesday, February 18th at 2:30 in the small gym.
This meeting is for all athletes who have made the final roster selection
for their spring sport team and will go over the course and hand out all
assignments for the course.  Attendance for the entire meeting is mandatory
in order to receive the info and be enrolled in the course.  Please be on
time.  The meeting should last about 30 minutes.


*IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS*:  AP students: *AP exams* are now on sale at the
web store *only*. If you are in need of financial assistance, please
contact your counselor immediately.


*TODAY*:  Tonight, Friday, February 13th, Davis High will host the *Mardi
Gras Masquerade Ball*! This dance is casual and will be in the new gym from
8pm to 10pm. Admission is free. Remember - you must have a dance contract
on file to attend.


Are you interested in learning about the *United States Marines*?  If so,
come to the Career Center at lunch on Friday, February 13 to meet with a U.
S. Marine representative.


All *Winter ILS* students:  *today is the final check in day* with your ILS
instructor.  Meet your instructor during 7th period to get your graded
coursework and final grade for the course.  This is also your final
opportunity to turn in any missing assignments.


*The Gay-Straight Alliance* will have a general meeting today, Friday in
L-28th.  We will be planning for the Day of Silence in April.


*Student Government; *applications are due today, Friday, February 13th.

*ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES*:  If you are interested in attending
Sacramento City College or American River College next fall, attend their
free Saturday enrollment events. Representatives at each school will guide
you step by step through the enrollment process.  It makes applying easy!
Space is limited, so sign up soon!  Come to the Career Center for
information on how to register for the Saturday sessions.


UC Davis is hosting *Financial Aid Awareness Week February 18-20* on the
UCD Campus.  Financial aid professionals will be available to help students
and parents complete FAFSA or DREAM Act applications.  Come to the Career
Center for more information!

It's *College Tour time*!  The City of Davis is planning its annual So-Cal
College Tour Trip for high school students.  Colleges on the tour are UC
Santa Cruz, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, UC Santa Barbara, University of
Southern California and UCLA.  The trip will take place the week of March
23-26.  Cost is $515 which includes transportation, college tours,
breakfast, dinner and hotels.  Come to the Career Center for more
information.


Any student wishing to take *AP Art Studio* next year must turn in their
art portfolio by next Wednesday, Feb 18th.  They can be turned in to any
art teacher.

All entering *10th-12th* grade students are invited to audition for the *Davis
Madrigal Singers* for the 2015-2016 school year.  Auditions will be held
March 9th-12th in the DHS music rooms (PA3 and PA8).  There will be an
informational meeting on Wednesday, March 4 at 4:00 inPA8.  The meeting is
not mandatory but please come if you have questions about the ensembles or

*Juniors*!  The Rotary Club is sponsoring *Camp Venture*, an all-expenses
paid training and motivational summer camp for juniors interested in
pursuing a career in business, particularly as entrepreneurs.  The camp
will be held at CSU Maritime Academy in June.  Come to the Career Center
for more information and an application.


*CLUBS/EVENTS**:  *OOGA-CHAKA OOGA-OOGA OOGA-CHAKA OOGA-OOGA! Can’t stop
that feeling of friendship? Come to the quad at lunch on Tuesday, February
17, to sign up and come to the next and *FINAL Friendship Day* of the year
to get hooked on friendship!  Serenations by facilitators sold separately!


*Happy* *Chinese New Year*!  Come to the quad this Tuesday for activities,
prizes and other information at lunch!


*Davis Pentathlon* on March 29th!  The U.S. Pentathlon is joining with
Davis Fencing Academy, DART Swimming and other local sport groups to offer
the first Davis Pentathlon! No experience is necessary.  An open practice
will be held March 28th and other practices will be available.  The event
will consist of fencing, laser pistol shooting, swimming and running. (No

*National Honors Society *registration is taking place for the next 2 weeks
in room S-12. Bring $5.00 and your school ID to register.


*CSF registration *for the spring semester starts next week, February 17th.
Bring $5.00, your report card and the pink CSF sheets to room P-13 to
register.


*Cancer Awareness Club* Fact of the Week: The Agency for Healthcare
Research and Quality estimates that the direct medical costs (total of all
health care expenditures) for cancer in the U.S. in 2011 were $88.7 billion.


Interested in French language, food, culture and music?  Come join the *French
Club* every Tuesday at lunch in Mr. Curley’s room, O-4.  See you there!


The Citrus Circuits Robotics Team is hosting a screening of *Slingshot,* a
*documentary* featuring Dean Kamen’s 15 year journey to solve the world’s
water crisis.  The movie will be shown on February 14th at Brunelle Hall at
Davis Senior High School.  The doors will open at 6:30 pm and the movie
starts at 7:00 pm.  It’s approximately an hour and a half long, ending
around 8:30-8:45 pm with a free ice cream social after the movie. General
