DHS will follow a different schedule the week of November 8.

Monday, Nov. 8-Regular Monday Periods 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7
Tuesday, Nov. 9-Thursday Block with Periods 1, 3, 5 & 7 (out at 2:30)
Wednesday, Nov.10-Wednesday Block with Periods 2, 4, & 6
Thursday, Nov. 11-NO SCHOOL Legal Holiday
Friday, Nov. 12-NO SCHOOL Work Reduction Day

DAY IN HISTORY

D.C. Residents Cast First Presidential Votes, Nov. 3, 1964
On this day in 1964, residents of the District of Columbia cast their ballots in a presidential election for the first time. The passage of the 23rd Amendment in 1961 gave citizens of the nation's capital the right to vote for a commander in chief and vice president. They went on to help Democrat Lyndon Johnson defeat Republican Barry Goldwater in 1964, the next presidential election.

REMINDER

1.         Attention DHS! Myron Piper will be here this Thursday at 3:00pm in room L-23 to help DHS students with the National History Day competition. Participate in a chance to win scholarships, participate in states, move on to nationals and celebrate history. Looks great on college apps!!

NEW

1.         Get ready to hit the slopes, buy great new gear and used gear at the Davis Senior High School Snowboard Team's ski and snowboard swap on Saturday, November 6 from 9am-3pm in the parking lot of Ken's Bike and Ski at 650 G St in Davis. Portions of the sale will go to benefit the DHS Snowboard team. Donations to the swap can be dropped off at Ken's Bike and Ski, 650 G St on Friday, November 5 between 6 and 8pm or Saturday, November 6 between 7 and 9am. Get rid of your old ski and snowboard equipment and clothing and support you local businesses and the Davis High School Snowboard team.

2.         DHS Men's Basketball. The DHS Men's Basketball program has its own, up-to-date website. It includes important tryout and registration information. Athletes are required to bring the registration form on the website to the first day of tryouts are November 8th. The link is www.davishighhoops.com

3.         In a world void of happiness and love, there is one light that remains (screaming) FRIENDSHIP DAY! It's coming to a Redwood building near you on November 5th. Don't forget to turn you form to the front office or the darkness will envelop you. Forms due Thursday....muhaha-muhaha!!

4.         Attention all math and science tutors! There is a general club meeting this Friday at lunch in S-9!

5.         This week is Davis' Got Talent audition week! Be sure to bring your completed application when you audition! Audition times are Monday through Friday after school from 2:30pm to 4:30pm in Mr. Reiley's room in P-10. See you all there!

2.         The Davis High School Jazz Choir will present "Karaoke Night" on Wed, Nov. 10 from 7-10pm at Holmes Jr. High MPR. The Davis community is invited to an interactive program to entertain both teens and adults. Participants will hear the Jazz Choir perform, and everyone will have the opportunity to be Karaoke singers themselves as soloists, duos or trios. Dance breaks will intersperse the singing, and pizza will be available to purchase at intermission. Special guest soloists will appear throughout the night. Door prizes will be announced near the end of the evening. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Jazz Choir's trip to New York City where they will participate in the Nationals Finale Show Choir Championships at Radio City Music Hall.
