MLK Federal Holiday Declared, Nov. 2, 1985. President Ronald Reagan signed a bill in the White House Rose Garden designating a federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King, Jr., observed on the third Monday of January.

1.         High School Boys JV & Varsity LACROSSE Registration and Meeting Information Davis High School Boys LACROSSE Registration Opens NOVEMBER 1, 2010. If you're interested in learning more about or playing Lacrosse, it's important that you sign-up online, so that you'll be included in all future correspondence. Parents, there are no fees to register and just three easy steps to get started. Go to: http://www.davislacrosse.org/ and on the left side, click on the tab 'Register Online', Scroll to DHS Boys JV and Varsity and enter information Note: High School athletes are not required to become US LAX members. SAVE THE DATE: There will be an informational Parent/ Athlete Meeting on Tuesday, November 9th at Davis Senior High School at 7:00 to 9:00 pm. NEW

1.         Get ready to hit the slopes, buy great new gear and used gear at the Davis Senior High School Snowboard Team's ski and snowboard swap on Saturday, November 6 from 9am-3pm in the parking lot of Ken's Bike and Ski at 650 G St in Davis. Portions of the sale will go to benefit the DHS Snowboard team. Donations to the swap can be dropped off at Ken's Bike and Ski, 650 G St on Friday, November 5 between 6 and 8pm or Saturday, November 6 between 7 and 9am. Get rid of your old ski and snowboard equipment and clothing and support you local businesses and the Davis High School Snowboard team.

2.         Hey Davis High! The BSU will meet on Wednesday, November 3rd in room A-3 at lunch time. We'll see you there!

3.         Hey Key Clubbers! Don't forget to stop by our 5th general meeting this Wednesday at lunch in S-12. Be sure to turn in your membership forms. Spread the buzz and tell all your friends. See you there!

4.         Attention all math and science tutors! There is a general club meeting this Friday at lunch in S-9!

5.         This week is Davis' Got Talent audition week! Be sure to bring your completed application when you audition! Audition times are Monday through Friday after school from 2:30pm to 4:30pm in Mr. Reiley's room in P-10. See you all there!

6.         In a world void of happiness and love, there is one light that remains (screaming) FRIENDSHIP DAY! It's coming to a Redwood building near you on November 5th. Don't forget to turn you form to the front office or the darkness will envelop you. Forms due Thursday....muhaha-muhaha!!

7.         The Davis High School Jazz Choir will present "Karaoke Night" on Wed, Nov. 10 from 7-10pm at Holmes Jr. High MPR. The Davis community is invited to an interactive program to entertain both teens and adults. Participants will hear the Jazz Choir perform, and everyone will have the opportunity to be Karaoke singers themselves as soloists, duos or trios. Dance breaks will intersperse the singing, and pizza will be available to purchase at intermission. Special guest soloists will appear throughout the night. Door prizes will be announced near the end of the evening. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Jazz Choir's trip to New York City where they will participate in the Nationals Finale Show Choir Championships at Radio City Music Hall.

1.         Cafeteria: Beef dippers with rice, pasta bar, chicken wings and celery sticks with rice, pizza, sandwich.

2.         Please join us next Tuesday during lunch in the IPAB for a presentation entitled, "What If I'm White? White People in America's Struggle for Racial Justice." It is brought to you courtesy of the Race and Social Justice class. Harvard University Professor Mark Warren will talk about his book, Fire in The Heart: How White Activists Embrace Racial Justice. There will be plenty of time for students' questions. Please remember, there is no food or drink allowed in the IPAB.

3.         Do you want to learn about and experience other cultures? If so make sure you check out Chinese Club this Tuesday in room N-15A at lunch time to learn about the most populous country in the world! Everyone is welcome.

1.         The DHS Men's Basketball season is just around the corner! A conditioning program is being held by the high school coaches for all interested athletes during the basketball dead period (Oct 18-Nov 7) on Monday, Wednesday, & Thursday from 5-6:30 PM at the DHS new gym and track. These sessions will primarily focus on strength training, endurance, speed, agility & quickness. It is very important for all players to attend in order to be in the best shape possible before the official tryouts. Try outs begin on Nov 8th for all levels. 2.         Attention DHS! If you would like to earn scholarships, compete in regional, state and possibly national competitions, come to the National History Day competition briefing this Thursday 4:00pm in L-23 (above the library). Our Sacramento regional coordinator will be coming to talk about this year's topic, possible project ideas, and other professional support. For more information contact Ms. Bruns in L-23.
