DAY IN HISTORY

Students Storm U.S. Embassy in Iran, Nov. 4, 1979-
On this day in 1979, hundreds of Iranian students stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking more than 60 American hostages. The students, supporters of the conservative Muslim cleric Ayatollah Khomeini, demanded the return of Iran's deposed leader, the Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlevi, who had fled the United States to receive cancer treatment. President Carter ordered a military rescue mission that failed miserably. The crisis came to an end after 444 days when the Iranian government freed the hostages.

REMINDER

1.         Get ready to hit the slopes, buy great new gear and used gear at the Davis Senior High School Snowboard Team's ski and snowboard swap on Saturday, November 6 from 9am-3pm in the parking lot of Ken's Bike and Ski at 650 G St in Davis. Portions of the sale will go to benefit the DHS Snowboard team. Donations to the swap can be dropped off at Ken's Bike and Ski, 650 G St on Friday, November 5 between 6 and 8pm or Saturday, November 6 between 7 and 9am. Get rid of your old ski and snowboard equipment and clothing and support you local businesses and the Davis High School Snowboard team.

1.         Attention Seniors! Senior ad deadlines are coming up quick! Talk to your parents about sending in your childhood photos, the next deadline is November 29th. After that the prices will go up! Come to A-7 to pick up your senior ad form, or look online at the DHS website.

2.         Do you like to hike or bike? Join the Outdoors Club! We will be meeting this Friday in C-1.

3.         Interested in engineering, technology or programming? Would you like real life experience and to participate in a regional competition at UC Davis?  The Robotics Club meets Thursdays at the Da Vinci High school in room 19 from 2:50 to 5:00PM. All high school students are welcome. We are learning how to program and build a robot in the coming weeks.

4.         DHS Men's Basketball. The DHS Men's Basketball program has its own, up-to-date website. It includes important tryout and registration information. Athletes are required to bring the registration form on the website to the first day of tryouts are November 8th. The link is www.davishighhoops.com

5.         Attention all math and science tutors! There is a general club meeting this Friday at lunch in S-9!

3.         In a world void of happiness and love, there is one light that remains (screaming) FRIENDSHIP DAY! It's coming to a Redwood building near you on November 5th. Don't forget to turn you form to the front office or the darkness will envelop you. Forms due today....muhaha-muhaha!!

2.         The Davis High School Jazz Choir will present "Karaoke Night" on Wed, Nov. 10 from 7-10pm at Holmes Jr. High MPR. The Davis community is invited to an interactive program to entertain both teens and adults. Participants will hear the Jazz Choir perform, and everyone will have the opportunity to be Karaoke singers themselves as soloists, duos or trios. Dance breaks will intersperse the singing, and pizza will be available to purchase at intermission. Special guest soloists will appear throughout the night. Door prizes will be announced near the end of the evening. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Jazz Choir's trip to New York City where they will participate in the Nationals Finale Show Choir Championships at Radio City Music Hall.
