Hello everyone,
Attached is the latest summary of the preliminary data for the Trinity River Project for the 2025/26 season with updated information for both the Junction City and Willow Creek weirs through Julian week 42 and the Trinity River Hatchery (TRH) through Julian week 38. We decided to pull the Willow Creek weir last Wednesday (10/22) in advance of the storm that occurred over the weekend. Although we would likely have been able to resume fishing after this storm we wanted to take a cautious approach with the safety of our crew and equipment, as this has been a fairly wet fall thus far and we had some issues navigating the access road following rain events. Additionally, it seems that we have trapped the majority of the fall Chinook run and we were not catching a meaningful amount of Coho. Continued trapping at the Willow Creek weir seemed to offer only diminishing returns. We would like to thank the Hoopa Valley Tribe for their help in removing the Willow Creek weir, as their knowledge and hard work made the significant task substantially easier. We would also like to thank the landowner and their family for allowing access to the site this year, and we all really enjoyed being out there on a very beautiful section of the river.
Apologies for the delay in getting this summary distributed. Our capacity has been reduced over the last few weeks with the removal of the Willow Creek weir, a current backlog of hatchery data, and being short staffed. We will return to the regular schedule with the next summary delivered on November 7, 2025.
