Winter is coming and so is the information meeting for the DHS Snowboard Team. Tuesday, September 19 @ 7pm in room L-20 is where you and your family members can learn about your chance to be on this awesome winter sport team. All skill levels are welcome. Is the state-championship-winning DHS Ski Team right for you? If you are at least an intermediate skier, come find out more at the informational meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Davis High School Library. ACADEMICS/OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS:
Friday, September 22nd is the deadline for summiting information and articles for the October Davis High School PTA newsletter. Please send news, announcement, etc. to the DSH PTA Media Listserve at DHSPTA at mailman.dcn.org<mailto:DHSPTA at mailman.dcn.org>. Be sure to include your name, email address and phone number in case the newsletter editor has some questions about your submission and also note that not every submission will be automatically included. Inclusion is at the discretion of our communications committee and is subject to timing, the appropriate venue(s), and frequency of the request(s). The newsletter is ONLY communication tool that reaches ALL DHS families, whether they have internet access or not. The newsletter is generally published around the first of the month. This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents help for DHS school and student activities.
Everyone can go to college! When/How do I have to apply? How do I pick a subject to study? How can I afford college? How many units is full time? Join a group of DHS students as we answer questions about college and learn "HOW TO PLAY THE COLLEGE GAME" provided in a partnership between Sacramento City College and Davis Senior High School. In only seven sessions you will walk away better able to navigate the college experience...first session starts Wednesday, September 20 @ 2:35pm (end of school day) at the library. Join this new College Readiness program at DHS!
English language Development is hosting a movie night this week: come see...MacFarland, USA, Thursday, September 21st 5:30pm west conference room, DHS Library. McFarland, USA will be shown as an opportunity of DHS Students who are learning English as a second language or have been reclassified English fluent proficient to spend time together. Any student who is a member of our English Language Department may attend, and they are welcome to bring their friends and/ or families. See you there!
After school GUITAR LESSONS have been suspended until further notice.
Hey CSF! Registration ends this Friday @ lunch. Pick up a pink application from the Library, front office or P-13. Bring $5 dollars, your application and report card to P-13. School Loop print out ARE NOT ACCEPTED. Hope to see you there!
Attention Everyone! Picture Make-Up Day is September 26 @ the North Gym. If you purchase an ASB Card please make sure you take your receipt or need your student ID please don't miss the make-up date. If you need Lifetouch forms to order, please come to the front desk and ask for one.
Mindfulness training will begin on Wednesday, September 20 from 2:45 to 3:15 in room O-5. Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to our present moment sensations. Who should practice mindfulness? Everyone who would like to feel calmer, more connected, and generally happier. For more information contact Ms. Tabor in O-5.
CLUBS:
Hey Key Clubbers! There will be registration at lunch in front of S-12 every day until September 22. It costs $11.50 to register and old members must bring their spring hour's sheet.
Register for the National Honors Society! We will be outside S-12 from 9/18 through 9/29. Bring $5 dollars and a transcript from last semester. Active members should bring an hour's sheet. We look forward to seen you there!
If you love animals and want to make a difference in our community and across the world, come join the Animal Awareness Club! Our first meeting is Wednesday, September 20th in room A-7 at lunch. We can't wait to see you there!
First Feminist Club meeting is Thursday, 9/21.come to Mrs. Wilkerson's room L-20 during lunch to discuss plans for this year.
Come to UNICEF Club's first meeting on Thursday the 21st! We'll be going over club requirements and general information. We are so excited to meet you guys!
Did you know the Universe is 13.7 billion years old? If you are interested in leadership position, join the Astronomy Club in S-11 @ lunch on Wednesday.
CAREERS:
If you are interested in community service, social service and personal growth, you may want to join The Youth Leadership Davis Program. Students participate in social and ethical discussions and will be trained as interns at the Davis Interfaith Rotating Winter shelter. Come to the Career Center for more information.
Are you looking to improve your leadership and teambuilding skills? If so, you should join the City of Davis Teen Leadership Council. Members will help plan and implement special City of Davis events and offer volunteer services within the City of Davis community. The first meeting is Tuesday, September 26 from 7:00-8:30pm. Come to the Career Center for more information.
