THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1968 - Apollo 7 was launched by the U.S. The first manned Apollo mission was the first in which live television broadcasts were received from orbit. Wally Schirra, Don Fulton Eisele and R. Walter Cunningham were the astronauts aboard.

TODAY: Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment and noticing the thoughts and sensations that arise. Who should practice mindfulness? Everyone who would like to feel calmer, more connected, and generally happier. Mindfulness training will be held in room O-5 every Wednesday from 2:45 to 3:15 in. For more information contact Ms. Tabor in O-5.

DHS students are invited to learn about Restorative Practice and how it helps build community. Join DHS student discussion in the DHS Library today @ 2:30 pm. During the 2017-2018 school year...DHS is offering student Health & Wellness Events. Each month special presentations and workshops that support our student's health and wellness will be held during and after our school day. After School Events- Students attending an event after school should arrive at the location and time indicated on the flyers, in the bulletin, or on the counseling web page. During School Events student should sign-up on the counseling web page under Health and Wellness and sign-in at the event to get their class absence excused. Stay Healthy and Strong DHS!

Your chance to be a member of the 2017-2018 DHS snowboard team is here! The sign up meeting is Tuesday, October 17 at 7pm at DHS room L-20. The team is open to any student from 9th to 12th grade. Team members will get a season pass that includes a Woodward Center pass. All skill levels are welcome. This is a great way to meet new people and have fun up on the slopes. ACADEMICS/OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS:
Seniors, Prestige Photography will be on campus on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 to take senior photos.
If you have not taken your senior photos please make sure to contact Marlen Cabrera, VP Secretary know right away via email mosoriocabrera at djusd.net<mailto:mosoriocabrera at djusd.net> or by phone (530)757-5400 Ext: 113. If you want to appear in the senior section of the yearbook, you must take your senior photo through Prestige. The cost is $20 if you wish to purchase proofs and select your yearbook photo, or free if you do not wish to purchase proofs.

Julius Achon, subject of the book The Boy Who Runs, will be speaking in Brunelle Theater at lunch on October 23rd.  He will also be speaking in the DSHS Library at 7 p.m. on October 23rd.  Achon was kidnapped by Joseph Kony's army when he was young.  He escaped and later fell in love with running.  He came to the US to run and attend university and later ran in the 2000 Olympics for his native country of Uganda.  Reminder: NO FOOD OR DRINK ARE ALLOWED IN BRUNELLE THEATER.

CLUBS:
DHS BSU will be having meeting every Monday at lunch in room P-11. Come join us and learn more about cultural diversity.

Want to taste some tamales, do some Zumba, and practice your Spanish? Come to Señora Candelario's room O-6 this Thursday during lunch for Spanish Language and Culture Club!

Hey You! Oh, Yes! I am talking about you! Join UNICEF every other Thursday. The upcoming meeting is this Thursday, October 19. We have lots of fun events coming up such as attending a city council meeting and trick or treat for UNICEF!

CAREERS:
SENIORS:  Need free money for college?  Then you should come to the DHS FINANCIAL AID WORKSHOP on Thursday October 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the theater.  At the workshop you'll learn about the many types of student financial aid and how to complete financial aid applications.  All seniors and their parents are invited to attend.  Come to the Career Center for more information.
