THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1962 - U.S. President John F. Kennedy nationalized the Mississippi National guard in response to city officials defying federal court orders. The orders had been to enroll James Meredith at the University of Mississippi.

TODAY:  Attention, students! Homecoming shirts will be sold today and tomorrow at lunch, as well as during the Homecoming Football game on September 30th.  The shirts are $7 with ASB and $10 without. Hope to see you there!

Do you have a special someone that want to boogie with all the way around the world? Come to the Fall Dance!  Tickets sold 9/21 to 9/29 at lunch in the Finance Office are $10 with ASB and $15 without.  Come and have a globally good time!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: Seniors! Get your Grad Night tickets! Grad Night tickets are available at Back-to-School Night this Thursday, September 29, from 6:00 to 8:00. Tickets are only $75 until January 31st, 2017 when the price will go up to $85.  Tickets will be $100 the night of the event, so order early for the best deal.
Grad Night is an ALL-NIGHT, ALCOHOL & DRUG-FREE PARTY FOR ALL DJUSD GRADUATING SENIORS!  Have your parents stop by the information table at Back-to-School Night this Thursday.

Are you interested in being part of a group that is dedicated to improving our school, increasing school spirit and making DHS a welcoming place for all students?  Then join the Climate Committee and make your voice heard! We will hold our first meeting this Tuesday, October 4th during lunch in the West Conference room of the DHS Library.  If you have any questions, please see Kellie Sequiera in the Vice Principal's office or on the quad during passing periods and lunch.  Bring your lunch and enjoy the conversation.

Attention, NHS members: There has been some confusion about the registration announcement.  NHS will extend registration which will take place at the first NHS meeting in S-12 on October 3.  At our first meeting, we will talk about general information of NHS and community service projects.  If you are registering, please bring $5, your report and your hours sheet if you are a returning member.

Want to read a play and eat some free food?  ACME Theater and the DHS GSA present a reading of Orlando: the story of an Elizabethan nobleman who becomes an immortal woman over the course of centuries.  All are welcome - just show up at Room S-1 this Friday from 3:45-6:00.

The world-renowned HOCO Spirit Week is here!  The week kicked off with 'Murica Monday,' followed by 'Trucker Tuesday,' 'Where'd you go Wednesday,' and 'Jet Lag Thursday.'  The week will end in 'Keep Davis Blue' Friday.  Make sure you wear that blue to the Homecoming game that night!

Back to School Night is next Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:10pm. Student Government will host a BBQ in the Quad at 5:30pm. Make sure to tell your parents to mark their calendars!!

Come watch the Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 30th starting at 1:15.  The parade will start at Central Park and make its way back to DHS.

ACADEMICS: PSAT is Saturday, 10/15!! The cost is $24.00. There are NO Refunds and no transfers. Sales end 10/3. There are a limited number of tests available. If you feel this is a financial hardship, please contact your counselor immediately. *Juniors only: Online purchasing is available 9/1 - 10/3 @ dshs.djusd.net

OPPORTUNITIES:  Cabin Leaders are needed for Patwin Elementary's Walker Creek trip from November 28 - December 2.  Come to the Career Center for an application.

Sacramento City College is hosting a Preview Day on Saturday, October 15 from 1:00 - 5:00 at the Sacramento campus.  The event will feature information on financial aid, how to apply to Sac City, tours of the campus, informational booths, performances, and much more!  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Washington DC Inauguration Trip - Our first meeting will be Wednesday, Oct 5 during lunchtime in Room P14. Come prepared to choose your roommates.

Hey Juniors! Want to be in the Homecoming Parade or get some volunteer hours?  Help build the Junior Class float from September 26th - 29th from 3:30-8:00.  Feel free to stop by for either the whole time or just for an hour.  It's up to you! For more information, come to N1-A at lunch.

CLUBS:  The DHS Car Club is moving the meetings to Tuesdays at lunch in the auto shop!  We are also holding a t-shirt design contest for the 2016-2017 Car Club Shirt! The design can be submitted to any car club member or emailed to rthayer at djusd.net<mailto:rthayer at djusd.net> or Davishighcarclub at gmail.com<mailto:Davishighcarclub at gmail.com>.  The contest ends Monday October 3rd The winner gets a free shirt and oil change.
