THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1989 - An earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter Scale hit the San Francisco Bay area in
California. The quake caused about 67 deaths, 3,000 injuries, and damages up to $7 billion.

DHS Girls Basketball will be holding their annual Lady Blue Devil Basketball Camp.  If you are in grades 4th through 8th
and interested in basketball, we'd love to see you out on the courts with us October 25th - 26th from 12:00-4:00.  Please
pick up a flier either in the Front Office or with your PE teacher.  For questions, please email Coach Heather Highshoe at

TODAY:  Attention all Fall ILS students: Assignment #3 is due today, Friday.  Turn in your work to your instructor in the
small gym during 7th period or turn in to the 'ILS turn in' tray in the Front Office.

If you are interested in Korean culture, the Korean Club is the place for you.   We meet Fridays at lunch in Room L-14.
 We will do lots of fun activities and learn about Korea.  No Korean language required!  Join us in L-14.

Hello CSF members! We will be having a meeting on Friday at lunch in Mrs. O'Brien's room, P-13.  We will discuss
upcoming projects and volunteer opportunities.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: PSAT Test is this Saturday, 10/18: Students MUST bring photo ID for entry and arrive to
N-4 by 7:30am for their classroom assignment. Doors close at 8am and you will not be admitted after. Park in the Oak St.
lots near the stadium and watch for cyclists!  Check the brochure for accepted calculators and no cell phones.

Attention All Clubs!   If you want to have your club photo in the yearbook, pick up a form in Mr. Achimore's room, P-21.
The forms will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and only the best 35 club forms will be accepted.  The last
day for turn-in forms is November 7th.

MISCELLANEOUS:  If you are a young woman who has volunteered in our community or school, you may be eligible to
win a $1,000 Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award.  The award recognizes women who make the community and world a
better place through volunteer efforts.  Come to the Career Center for more information and an application.  The
deadline to apply is December 1.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Stop by C-4 for a sign-up packet for the 2014 Intramural Dodgeball season.  Teams are made up of 6 - 9
players and games will take place at lunch during the month of November.  Turn in your sign-up sheet by October 29th
to C-4!

The Davis High School Philosophy Club is meeting on Monday, 10/20 in Room P-21 at lunch.  We will discuss metaphysics
and epistemology - the nature of what we see around us.  The discussion is open-ended and anyone can give their
opinion.  We hope to see you there!

Cancer Awareness club fact of the week: There are more than 100 types of cancers; any part of the body can be
affected.

It's LGBT History Month!  Did you know that same-sex couples are denied 6,138 federal rights straight couples have?

Attention artists! The DHS Car Club needs your help in designing the 2014 - 2015 Car Club t-shirt. Draw a cool car or
whatever you think would look good on our shirt. Submit your design electronically to rthayer at djusd.net or in person to
Mr. Thayer in room O-3. The winner of this year's contest will receive a Car Club t-shirt and a $20 Jamba Juice gift card.
Submissions are due Friday, October 31. For more information, contact Mr. Thayer in room O-3.  We can't wait to see
your design!

Are you an artist?  Do you like to create designs?  The DHS Car Club needs a 2014-2015 Car Club t-shirt design!  The
design could be of a cool car or something you think would look good on our t-shirt.  The winner will receive a $20
Jamba Juice gift card and a DHS Car Club t-shirt.  Electronic submissions are due on Halloween Friday, October 31st to

Where can you meet Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, Cinderella and her Prince and Jack with his beanstalk?  At DHS
Drama's fall musical, 'Into the Woods' performed on November 7th, 8th, 13th, 14th and 15th at 7:00 in the IPAB!  There
will be another performance on November 9th at 2:00 pm.  Be careful what you wish for!
