MARCH IS WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH:   On this day in 1852, Harriett Beecher Stowe published "Uncle
Tom's Cabin."  She was an abolitionist and her novel challenged the institution of slavery.

SAVE THE DATE!  Sports Physical Clinic at Sutter Family Medicine, 2030 Sutter Place, Davis - Saturday,
June 7th from 8:30-11:30 am - $20. donation benefits DHS Athletics Department.   Athletes in grades 7-
12 are encouraged to complete their sports physicals this spring to be ready for the 2014-15 school year.

TODAY:  Your senior class photo will be taken during 5th period on Thursday, March 20th.  Report to the
North Gym by 11:45 and make sure to leave your belongings in your classroom.

JUNIORS/SOPHOMORES - Want to learn why California community colleges and public universities are
an excellent first choice for many high school students?  Dr. John Chuck will present - GOING RETRO:
March 20, 7:00 pm IPAB  -- Learn how to graduate from college with little to no debt.

SENIORS:  Are you interested in speaking at your graduation ceremony?  If yes, pick up an application
form from Vice Principal McHale in the office this week.
A local scholarship deadline has been extended!  The Davis Chinese Association Scholarship is for seniors
of Chinese descent who have demonstrated academic excellence and participated in school and
community activities.  Come to the Career Center for an application.  The new deadline is Friday, March
21st.

Seniors, it's that time you have all been waiting for! Senior Ball is here!  Ticket sales begin April 8th with
prices starting at $60. with ASB and $70 without ASB.  Prices will increase weekly!  Tickets are available
at lunch at the Finance Office window from April 8th to April 25th.  If you have financial needs regarding
Senior Ball tickets, please talk to your counselor.

ACADEMICS/COLLEGE INFO:   Students interested in pursuing a career in Veterinary Medicine are invited
to attend UC Davis' School of Veterinary Medicine "Future Day" on Saturday, April 19 from 8:30-3:00.
Future Day is a free event for students and will focus on veterinary medicine and interactive labs.  The
event is free and includes a light breakfast, lunch and refreshments.  Come to the Career Center for
more information.
The SUMMER ACTIVITIES, SCHOLARSHIP AND JOB FAIR has been POSTPONED due to windy weather.
The event has been rescheduled for this Friday, March 21 at lunch outside the Career Center.  Come to
the fair for information on scholarships, jobs, volunteer opportunities and summer activities.  There will
be a West Point representative and former Blue Devil JaeDoo Son will be here to discuss life at West
Pointe and answer your questions.  See you at the Career Center Friday at lunch!

Are you an English learner looking to improve your school?  The next ELAC is April 1st, after break.  Ask
your English teacher or visit Mr. Vasquez in L-10 to find out how you can help improve the DHS
experience for all students learning English.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  This Friday is Eastpitch Friday!   Come support the Varsity Softball team this Friday at

There is a CSF meeting this Friday!  Come to P-13, Ms. O'Brien's room at lunch to sign up for new
projects.  Officer applications are now available in P-13 as well.

Miley Cyrus once said "If there were more Friendship Day facilitators, the world would be a better
place."  Just kidding!  All she said was "twerk."  But if she did say that, she would tell you to pick up your
facilitator forms in the office and turn them in by March 21st.

Tuesday, March 25 is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the April 2014 DHS PTA
newsletter. Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserv at
DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org and include your name and a parent or faculty name and contact
information (e-mail address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions about your
submission. Please be sure to include a teacher or parent contact and his/her phone number or e-mail
address. The newsletter is generally available around the 1st of each month. This is a great way to
inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.

GRAD NIGHT:  Seniors!  Don't forget that ticket prices will go up if you wait until June to purchase your
ticket! Please go to davisgradnight.org and either purchase the ticket online or download the ticket form
and mail in with your check.  Don't forget to send a kindergarten picture of yourself (with a self-
addressed, stamped envelope for return) for the "Kinder Wall."  Scanned pictures of good quality are
OK!  Don't wait until the ticket price goes up!
