THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  

In 1915, a prototype tank nicknamed Little Willie rolls off the assembly
line in England. It weighed 14 tons, got stuck in trenches and crawled over
rough terrain at only two miles per hour. However, improvements were made to
the original prototype and tanks eventually transformed military
battlefields.

NEW:  

According to GLSEN, (the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network): "The
statistics couldn't be clearer - LGBT students do not feel safe in their own
schools. Bullying, harassment, physical intimidation are the norm for far
too many LGBT youth."  But organizations like the Gay -Straight Alliance
(GSA) can make a difference.  Join your fellow Blue Devils today at lunch in
L-28 (Mr. Wheeler's classroom) to find out how you can help create and
maintain a safe, positive campus for all students.

 

Attention current LINK Crew leaders: There is a mandatory meeting today
(September 6th) in room L-25 (Mr. Elliott's Room).

 

Reminder to Fall athletes:  Mandatory ILS information meeting will be held
today, during 7th period in the small gym.  See Ms. Crawford with any

The DHS Site Council is looking for dedicated students to join our
committee. The Site Council consists of Principal Brown, staff, parents and
students. The Site Council discusses ways to improve student achievement and
supports new programs at its monthly meetings. If you would like to help
shape the future of our school, please pick up an application from Vice
Principal McHale in the office by Thursday, September 5. Applications are
due today, September 6.

 

Come learn about two health related clubs, the Teen Health Awareness Club
and the Healthcare Careers Club, in S5 at lunch on Monday Sept 9th. The DHS
Teen Health Awareness Club was created to increase student awareness on
relevant health issues; this club allows you to take action on your
interests in health care and make a difference. We will host educational
events, a health professional led lecture series, and will work on projects
such as the student healthy recipe book and other fun new activities. The
DHS Healthcare Careers Club was designed for students who are interested in
pursuing a career in healthcare. We will be hosting lectures to introduce
you to various careers in the medical field.

 

ONGOING/UPCOMING: 

Reminder to Staff: Davis PD begins ticketing on Monday, September 9. Make
sure your parking placard is visible in your vehicle at all times.

 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:  The Davis Art Center is looking for volunteers for
their "Design Launch and Flight Derby" at the UC Davis Arboretum Gazebo this
Sunday, September 8th, from 9 am - 2:30 pm.  Volunteers are needed to help
set up tables and chairs, clean up, and assist with crafts during the event.

information.

 

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY:  Davis Media Access is offering a four-month,
non-paid internship where students can gain hands-on experience and exposure
to many aspects of community television production.  Interns must be at
least 16 years old and able to work 3-6 hours per week.  The deadline to
apply is September 13.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

 

College visits begin in the Career Center on Monday September 9!  Come to
the Career Center or go on Naviance for the date and time of each college
visit.  Students must sign up on Naviance prior to attending a college
visit, and must check in with their teacher before leaving class to attend a
visit.  If you need help with your Naviance account, come to the Career
Center or see your counselor.

 

Calling all dancers! The DHS Jazz Choir announces its 4th annual dance
competition, "Everybody Dance Now!" Ten dance acts will compete to win one
of two cash prizes ($75 and $150). Application forms are available in the
DHS office, in the Vocal Room (P-08) and on the Jazz Choir website
(www.dhsjazzchoir.org ) Applications must be received by today, 9/6 at
3:00pm along with a $10 application fee.

 

Reminder:  The Finance Office is open during lunch for any student
transactions including Unitrans bus ticket sales.
