THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  

On this day in 1951, President Harry S. Truman's opening speech before a
conference in San Francisco is broadcast across the nation, marking the
first time a television program was broadcast from coast to coast. The
speech focused on Truman's acceptance of a treaty that officially ended
America's post-World War II occupation of Japan.

Reminder: Davis PD begins ticketing on Monday, September 9. Make sure your
parking placard is visible in your vehicle at all times.

Davis Senior High School's Career Center is open!  The Career Center
provides student support and resources for college planning, scholarships,
financial aid, jobs, volunteer opportunities, summer activities, test
preparation, study abroad programs, and more!  Students and parents are
welcome to visit the Career Center located behind the theater Monday -
Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  

Its college visit time!  Colleges and universities from across the country
will be visiting Davis Senior High School's Career Center this fall to meet
with interested students.  Dates and times of visits are posted outside the
Career Center and on Naviance.  Students must sign up on Naviance prior to
attending a college visit, and must check in with their teacher before
leaving class to attend a visit.  If you need help with your Naviance
account, come to the Career Center.

The 2013-14 Speech and Debate Team will have an information meeting today,
September 4th at lunch in Mrs. Widman's room- P-23. Come to learn more about
the team and what we're all about.

The Guitar Club holds its first meeting on Thursday, September 5th at 12:00
in room P-22. This is primarily an informational meeting, so there is no
need to bring a guitar. All styles and ability levels are welcome.

Interested in joining the Wrestling Team this winter season? Come to an
informational meeting this Wednesday, 9/4 at lunchtime in the weight room.

ONGOING/UPCOMING: 

Attention all FALL sports athletes who wish to enroll in Independent
Lifetime Sports (ILS): 

Please pick up an application in the DHS front office, complete it, and
return it to the front office no later than tomorrow, Wednesday, 9/4. The
MANDATORY INFORMATIONAL MEETING will be held Friday, 9/6 during 7th period
in the South Gym. This meeting is where you will receive the course details
and requirements. You must have an application completed and turned in to
continue your enrollment in the course. Questions? Email Ms. Crawford at

Calling all dancers! The DHS Jazz Choir announces its 4th annual dance
competition, "Everybody Dance Now!" Ten dance acts will compete to win one
of two cash prizes ($75 and $150). Application forms are available in the
DHS office, in the Vocal Room (P-08) and on the Jazz Choir website
(www.dhsjazzchoir.org ) Applications must be received by Friday, 9/6 at
3:00pm along with a $10 application fee.

Reminder:  The Finance Office is open during lunch for any student
transactions including Unitrans bus ticket sales.
