THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

In 1871, flames sparked in the Chicago barn of Patrick and Catherine O'Leary, igniting a two-day blaze dubbed the "Great Fire of 1871". Legend has it, a cow kicked over a lantern which sparked the fire that left 4 square miles, including the business district, of the Windy City in ruins.

The DHS Teen Health Awareness Club and DHS Healthcare Careers Club invite you to the first lecture in their upcoming healthcare lecture series for the 2013-14 school year. Today OCT 8th at lunchtime in S5, Dr. Katherine Eastham, Assistant Chief of Pediatrics at Kaiser Davis, will discuss "Which food groups do my Frappuccinos, Hot Cheetos, and Twinkies fit into?" Come hear her speak about healthy eating, exercise, and her career as a pediatrician. Snacks will be provided!  All students and staff are welcome to attend.



Seniors:  Need assistance with the college selection and application process?  Counselors will be available in the Career Center to answer your questions on the following dates:  TODAY, 10/10, 10/15 and 10/16.

If your class is participating in this year's door decorating contest, make sure you get your door finished by the beginning of 4th period tomorrow (10/9). Student Government will be going class-to-class for judging!



Get pumped for the Homecoming Parade! It starts at C Street downtown (across from Yolo Berry) and makes its way all the way back to the high school! Start time is 1:15pm, so get your bad self to the parade!



PSAT is Saturday, 10/19!! Tests will be sold online to 10th and 11th graders through Friday 10/11. Visit dshs.djusd.net and click the Pay Online tab!!  In person sales are at lunch only at the Testing Coordinator's desk through Thursday 10/10!! $24.00, no refunds. If you feel this is a financial hardship, please contact your counselor immediately.

Ag Students! FFA Meeting tomorrow, October 9th at 6pm in O-1A. We will be carving pumpkins and enjoying pumpkin flavored treats!



The City of Davis is offering their annual fall tour of northern California universities!   The next tour is Stanford University on Saturday, October 12.  Additional tours are scheduled for Chico State and San Francisco State.  Trips are $67 and include transportation, college tour, and lunch.
