THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1977 - Janet Guthrie set the fastest time of the second weekend of qualifying, becoming the first woman to earn a starting spot in the Indianapolis 500 since its inception in 1911.

SAVE THE DATE! Sports Physical Clinic at Sutter Davis Family Practice Saturday, June 1st from 8:30-11:30am. $20 donation benefits DHS Athletics. Athletes in grades 7-12 are encouraged to complete their sports physicals this spring for the 2013-14 school year. Davis High summer Volleyball camp: June 17-20th @ Davis High South Gym
Youth camp: K-8th grade, 8-10am; Team camp: 9-12th grade, 11-2pm This camp is open to both boys and girls and is a great way to meet the Davis High coaches and other guest coaches. All girls and boys planning on trying out for DHS volleyball next year should sign up for the team camp. Other youth interested in learning the basic fundamental skills of volleyball, sign up for the youth camp. There are 2 ways to register: ONLINE through the Davis High website www.davisseniorhigh.net<http://www.davisseniorhigh.net> -Click on "Pay Online" and select your camp choice OR Log onto the Davis High Volleyball website http://groups.dcn.org/dhsvolleyball -Download and print the Registration form.
NEW: Seniors: Caps/Gowns/Tassels & Graduation Announcements will be available for pick-up Friday, May 24th during lunch in the Quad. Forgot to order? See Jostens at this time.
AP US History students for next year: All students signed up to take AP US History for 2013-2014 (i.e., next year!) need to come to a meeting next Wednesday, May 29th. The meeting will be in the library and will start at the beginning of lunch. Please bring your student I.D. to check out the textbook for the class and to receive the AP US History Summer Assignment.
Senior Awards Night is almost here! ALL SENIORS are invited and encouraged to come to Senior Awards Night on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:00 pm in the IPAB. This is a fun and enthusiastic event and we look forward to seeing you and your family there. Now posted in the main office and in the Career Center are the names of all students receiving scholarships, awards, or special recognition at Senior Awards Night. Check the list to see if your name is on the list. Come to the Career Center if you have questions about Senior Awards Night.
Seniors: Don't forget to request your FINAL TRANSCRIPT to be sent to the college you will be attending. Bring in a stamped, self-addressed envelope to the Transcript Counter and follow the posted instructions. If you common application college is requesting submission of a final report, you will need to make a request at the transcript counter. Stamped addressed envelope not needed. Seniors, don't forget to fill out a permanent address card if you haven't already. Turn in completed cards to the Front Desk or Counseling Office.
Spring Choral Concert! The DHS Spring Choral Concert takes place Thursday, May 30 at 7:00 pm in the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall. This is your chance to hear the Advanced Treble Choir, Concert Choir and DHS Madrigal Singers perform one last time before the end of the school year. The POPS concert is directed by Dr. Karen Gardias and features soloists, duets and full choirs. Tickets are $6 at Watermelon Music or $8 at the door. The box office opens at 6:15 pm.
Seniors! Your 4th period teachers should be passing out surveys regarding your plans for next year in order to be featured in the HUB's senior list! Whether you are going to college, working, traveling, or doing something else, please share your plans with us! Thank you!
The DHS Jazz Band presents "Jazz on a Summers Eve Concert," Thursday, May 23, 7:30 pm at the Veteran's Memorial Theater and DHs Band Concerts: DHS Jazz Band, "Jazz on a Summers Eve Concert, " Wednesday, May 29, 6:00 pm, Central Park.
ONGOING/UPCOMING: Recycling makes the environment greener. A green environment makes the campus happy. Let's make a happy campus by placing all papers, plastics and aluminum in the small blue recycling containers. Thank you.
Friday, May 24 is the deadline for submission of information and articles for the June 2013 DHS PTA Newsletter. Please send items to DHS PTA Media Listserve at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org , include your name and teacher or parent contact in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission. Please include the telephone number or email contact for the parent or teacher. The newsletter is generally available around the 1st of the month. This is a great way to inform, notify and enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS and student activities.
The Madrigals will be holding auditions for a tenor, bass, and accompanist on May 28th at lunch. Please see Mrs. Gardias for details.
Did you apply for a local scholarship? Names of scholarship recipients are starting to arrive, so come to the Career Center to see if your name is on the list of recipients!
SENIORS: Have you received any scholarships or awards not administered by the Career Center, such as scholarships from colleges or outside organizations? If so, come to the Career Center and sign the "Outside Award" list. These awards will be announced at Senior Awards Night on Tuesday, May 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Richard Brunelle Theater.
The Devil Day Car Show returns Wednesday, May 29, hosted by the DHS Car Club. Cool cars and trucks will be on display all day in the quad with judging at lunch and a people's choice award you can vote on. There are cool prizes for the winners including a car show t-shirt, free oil change or car care gift basket. If you or someone you know wants to enter, the applications are in the main office or the Auto Shop Room, O-3. Applications due May 15. Hope to see you there!
