Subject: Mariachi Puente Thong Hy Huynh Award for Excellence in Community Involvement

Attention Orchestra Students,

I am proud to announce that Mariachi Puente directed by Hiram and Ximena Jackson has been recognized by the City of Davis as a recipient of the Thong Hy Huynh Award for Excellence in Community Involvement. Mariachi Puente is a community extension of our music program open to members of our orchestra, band and choir programs to join and learn how to play and sing traditional Mariachi music.

I just had the privilege of coaching this group last weekend during their regular Sunday afternoon rehearsal as they will be joining the DHS Orchestras at the DHS Finale concert for a special end of the year performance with the DHS Symphony.

Mariachi Puente and the Jacksons will receive the award on Tuesday, May 3 at 6 p.m.<x-apple-data-detectors://2>  They will also play a couple of pieces for the City Council before their meeting begins.  Event is free and open to the public.

This is a huge honor for the group and a testament to the great musical offerings in our community and schools,
