Subject: Lungren Belly Flop Article in Bee
Lungren Belly Flop Article in Sacramento Bee
The Sacramento Bee published an anonymous editorial on page E6 of the
Sunday, June 8 edition entitled, ³Lungren¹s poolside ploy: An ethical
belly-flop.² <http://www.sacbee.com/editorials/story/995529.html> The
editorial takes Lungren to task for his Hawaii vacation earlier this year,
paid for by special interests, in violation of the spirit, if not the
letter, of House ethics laws passed in 2007. While the article is
appropriately critical of Lungren, it makes no mention of Bill¹s campaign.
Please email Bee Editorial page editor, David Holwerk
<mailto:dholwerk at sacbee.com> , or call him at 916-321-1851, to thank him for
running the editorial bringing Lungren¹s ethics transgressions to the
attention of Bee readers. Please encourage him, though, to include more
coverage in the Bee of Bill¹s campaign, including the stark differences
between Bill and Lungren in terms of ethics, character, background, and
positions on the major issues of our times.
Please also write a letter to the editor of the Sacramento Bee <
">http://www.sacbee.com/sendletter> <http://www.sacbee.com/sendletter>
concerning the Lungren belly flop article and pointing out the contrasts
between Bill and Lungren. Refer to the Durston for Congress website
<http://www.durstonforcongress.org> , including the 2006 Elk Grove Debates
(particularly the segment on corruption) for material for your letter. In
both your letters to the editor and your contact with David Holwerk,
consider asking the Bee to sponsor and cover debates between Bill and
Lungren so that voters can fully appreciate the striking differences between
these two candidates.
Finally, please make a contribution now to the Durston for Congress campaign
via the Durston for Congress website <http://www.durstonforcongress.org> .
The Bee article points out that Lungren collected $20,000 in special
interest money in just 2 hours during his Hawaii junket. In April of this
year, Lungren collected an estimated $460,000 in just one evening when he
and Dick Cheney flew in together on Air Force 2 at taxpayers¹ expense and
held an exclusive fundraiser at the ranch of a local businessman. The
Durston for Congress campaign depends on contributions from grassroots
supporters like you, not on selling favors to wealthy special interests, to
finance our campaign to take back our democracy. Please consider what it
would be worth to you to have Bill Durston rather than Dan Lungren
representing you in Congress, and contribute accordingly to our campaign to
restore government of, by, and for the people.
Authorized and paid for by Durston for Congress - Working together for a
healthier, safer future.
