Our focus has been on the possibility of protests in downtown Sacramento between now and Thursday, January 21st, the day after the Presidential Inauguration. According to SacRT, the FBI has advised all 50 State Capitols to prepare for the possibility of increased demonstrations starting this Saturday through at least Wednesday. Consequently, there will be an increase in law enforcement downtown and the area around the Capitol as well as City Hall, and there is a distinct possibility that the National Guard may be called in. We were shown one electronic flyer that called for "armed protests" on Sunday, January 17th at the U.S. Capitol and all State Capitols. Given this situation, please be aware of the following: 1. Our highest priority is your safety, and the safety of bus drivers, and others who travel into, within, and out of downtown Sacramento. 2. We encourage you to minimize your travel in the downtown Sacramento area between now and January 21st. Please be particularly sensitive to January 17th and 20th; however, street closures due to protests might come up anytime between now and the 21st. 3. If law enforcement personnel start shutting down streets due to a protest and related safety reasons, Yolobus will either re-route its buses in downtown Sacramento (limiting our access to the bus stop on Capitol Mall between 8th and 7th Streets) or pull all Yolobus service out of downtown Sacramento if events warrant such, until such time that streets are re-opened and it is safe for our services to be on downtown Sacramento streets again. In this event, Yolobus service will be available to/from the West Sacramento Transit Center, using the bus stop at Tower Bridge Gateway at Sutter Health Field. [Diagram, map Description automatically generated] Should these disruptions continue throughout the work week, Yolobus services, including express buses, will originate and terminate at the West Sacramento Transit Center. For updates, please go to www.yolobus.com, or call Yolobus at (530) 666-2877.
