From Tbassett at yctd.org Mon Jul 6 10:37:40 2009 From: Tbassett at yctd.org (Terry Bassett) Date: Mon, 6 Jul 2009 10:37:40 -0700 Subject: [Yolobus Public Announcement] Public Hearing on Proposed Change in Paper Transfers to/from YOLOBUS Message-ID: <341F5A080070074DBFF7D7F0E5E118D519B8BA@DCExchange.YCTD.com> YOLOBUS Riders: Today's July 6th issue of the Sacramento Bee incorrectly states that there is a public hearing tonight on YOLOBUS fares. That is incorrect. As stated in a message that we sent you previously (see below), we are having a public hearing on Monday, July 13th The proposed changes relate strictly to paper transfers, as Sacramento Regional Transit is eliminating them effective September 1, 2009. Most riders who ride both RT and YOLOBUS using a transfer will be encouraged to buy a daily pass, which will still be valid on both systems. NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING REGARDING PROPOSED CHANGE IN YOLOBUS FARE STRUCTURE At 7:00 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2009, the Yolo County Transportation District (YCTD) Board of Directors will conduct a public hearing regarding a proposed change in the YOLOBUS fare structure. This change is change is necessary because Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) has decided to eliminate accepting or issuing transfer slips, effective September 1, 2009. The hearing will take place at the Woodland City Council Chambers, second floor, 300 First Street, Woodland, CA 95695. With RT adopting a revised fare structure that eliminates transfer slips, it will be necessary for YCTD to modify its fare structure for those who either transfer to or from the RT system using a paper transfer. (Monthly pass and daily pass riders are no affected.) Proposed fare changes would become effective September 1, 2009. Transfers will no longer be issued for riders transferring from YOLOBUS to RT, or from RT to YOLOBUS. Riders who pay cash and ride both systems are encouraged to buy a daily pass from either YOLOBUS or RT. For rides within the YOLOBUS system, YOLOBUS will continue to issue transfers. It is proposed that these transfers be valid for up to 75 minutes, for YOLOBUS riders transferring to another YOLOBUS. YOLOBUS transfers cannot be used to complete a round trip. Those wishing to provide input at the hearing are encouraged to attend. Those who cannot attend the public hearing may write to the District with suggestions and comments. The mailing address is: Yolo County Transportation District, 350 Industrial Way, Woodland, CA 95776 or by email to ksouza at yctd.org. Comments may be placed by phone at (530) 661-0816 extension 19. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Thursday and Friday, July 16-17, 2009 have been designated by the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District as "Spare the Air" days. Rides on YOLOBUS and Unitrans fixed route services will be provided at no charge to riders on both of those days because of this "Spare the Air Day" designation. Also, riders of YOLOBUS paratransit services will not be charged a fare on those days, as well. This Summer, when the Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to exceed "150" for ozone levels, the air district sends out announcements at least the day before. Additionally, because the temperature forecast is significant for Thursday and Friday, both YOLOBUS and Unitrans are advising passengers to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and staying indoors as long as possible (until their buses arrive), particularly in the afternoon. While supplies last, YOLOBUS is giving away bottles that riders will be encouraged to fill with water and re-use throughout the summer. How can a rider find out if their bus is on time without being out there in the heat of the day? YOLOBUS riders can now get real time information on where their bus is simply by going to the Yolobus.com web site and clicking "automatic vehicle location system", or going to http://avl.yctd.org/. YOLOBUS is the first public bus system in the Sacramento area to offer system-wide real-time bus location information. In the coming months, Unitrans and Elk Grove will be implementing real time bus location systems, as well. This free-ride incentive program on YOLOBUS is funded by the Sacramento Area Council of Governments and the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District. Likewise, Unitrans, which serves the City of Davis, surrounding area, and U.C. Davis campus, will offer free rides on Monday, as well. This free-ride offer does not apply to Sacramento Regional Transit buses or light rail. Five-day forecasts for ozone are available at www.sparetheair.com and Spare the Air days are determined a day in advance which helps people plan to use alternative transportation, including bus, carpooling, walking and bicycling. Residents can also receive personal notification through Air Alert, a free service available by signing up at www.myairalert.net . On declared "Spare the Air" days anyone can ride YOLOBUS for free. Bus schedules are available by contacting YOLOBUS at 530-666-2877 or www.yolobus.com , as well as UNITRANS at 530-752-2877 or www.Unitrans.com .
