We have just received the following Spare the Air advisory. As previously announced, YOLOBUS will provide free rides to all passengers on announced "Spare The Air" days. Tuesday, September 7 and Wednesday, September 8 are Spare The Air Days in the Sacramento region. Ground-level ozone air pollution is forecast to reach 140 AQI - Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups tomorrow and Wednesday (Spare The Air trigger is 127 AQI & above). A Spare The Air advisory is being issued for tomorrow and Wednesday due to strong high pressure over northern California producing very warm surface temperatures, light winds, and a strong temperature inversion, trapping pollution in the Sacramento region. The Spare The Air program is urging motorists to reduce driving and take their lunches to work instead of driving out to eat. Homeowners are asked to avoid the use of gas-powered yard tools. Everyone is urged to carpool to sports and recreation activities and postpone errands that can wait. Remember, Yolo Bus and UNITRANS are free on Spare The Air days! For schedule information visit http://www.yolobus.com or http://www.UNITRANS.com. Did you know that: Poorly maintained cars pollute more. Regular tune-ups will help your car run better and cost less to operate. People are also being asked to: - eliminate vehicle trips - arrange to carpool with friends or co-workers - use public transit whenever possible - work from home instead of driving to work if your employer supports "teleworking" - exercise in the morning before air quality hits unhealthy levels - avoid the use of charcoal lighter fluid and barbecues To monitor current air quality conditions, visit http://www.SpareTheAir.com To find a carpool partner, register at http://www.1800COMMUTE.org or call 1-800-COMMUTE. Today, Wednesday, September 8 and tomorrow, Thursday, September 9 are Spare The Air Days in the Sacramento region. Ground-level ozone air pollution is forecast to reach 135 AQI - Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups today and 127 AQI - Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups tomorrow (Spare The Air trigger is 127 AQI & above). A Spare The Air advisory remains in effect for today and tomorrow due to a strong high pressure ridge over Northern California that is creating hot temperatures, stagnant conditions, and a strong temperature inversion in the Sacramento area. This is trapping pollution in our region, leading to an expected maximum of 135 on the Air Quality Index (AQI) today and 127 AQI tomorrow. The Spare The Air program is urging all motorists to reduce driving and take their lunches to work instead of driving out to eat. Homeowners are asked to avoid the use of gas-powered yard tools like lawn mowers and leaf blowers.
