Subject: [Yolobus Public Announcement] Tuesday declared Spare the Air Day
Message-ID: <00d401c47e67$8b6e4f10$6c01a8c0@100015>
The following is the official Spare the Air Advisory declaring tomorrow
to be the summer's first "Spare The Air" day. As previously announced,
YOLOBUS will provide free rides to all passengers on announced "Spare
The Air" days.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 10th is the first Spare The Air Day of the
2004 summer smog season in the Sacramento region.
Ground-level ozone air pollution is forecast to reach 135 AQI -
Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups today (Spare The Air trigger is 127 AQI &
above).
A Spare The Air Advisory has been issued for tomorrow due to strong high
pressure over northern California that is creating clear skies, hot
surface
temperatures, light winds, and a strong temperature inversion, trapping
pollution in the Sacramento region.
The Spare The Air program is urging motorists to reduce driving and take
their lunches to work instead of driving out to eat. Homeowners are
asked
to avoid the use of gas-powered yard tools. Everyone is urged to carpool
to sports and recreation activities and postpone errands that can wait.
Did you know that:
Poorly maintained cars pollute more. Regular tune-ups will help your car
run better and cost less to operate.
People are also being asked to:
- eliminate vehicle trips
- work from home instead of driving to work if your employer supports
"teleworking"
- arrange to carpool with friends or co-workers
- use public transit whenever possible
- exercise in the morning before air quality hits unhealthy levels
- avoid the use of charcoal lighter fluid and barbecues

Today, Tuesday, August 31 is a Spare The Air Day in the Sacramento
region. However, tomorrow, Wednesday, September 1 is NOT a Spare The Air
Day.
Ground-level ozone air pollution is forecast to reach 135 AQI -
Unhealthy
for Sensitive Groups today and decrease to 85 AQI - Moderate tomorrow
(Spare The Air trigger is 127 AQI & above).
A Spare The Air advisory is being issued for today due to strong high
pressure over northern California producing very warm surface
temperatures, light winds, and a strong temperature inversion, trapping
pollution in the Sacramento region. Tomorrow, a strengthening delta
breeze
and cooler temperatures in the Sacramento area will cause ozone levels
to
drop into the Moderate AQI range.
The Spare The Air program is urging motorists to reduce driving and take
their lunches to work instead of driving out to eat. Homeowners are
asked
to avoid the use of gas-powered yard tools. Everyone is urged to carpool
to sports and recreation activities and postpone errands that can wait.
