From ksouza at yctd.org Thu Jul 10 08:58:56 2003 From: ksouza at yctd.org (Kathy Souza) Date: Thu, 10 Jul 2003 08:58:56 -0700 Subject: [Yolobus Public Announcement] East End Project Input Sought Message-ID: <000b01c346fc$2b803030$6701a8c0@100015> Attention YOLOBUS Express Riders: With the recent opening of the "East End Project," we are attempting to determine how many of our riders would benefit by the Express Routes serving the new site. We are in the early stages of determining feasibility and do not have definite plans in place for such service but are exploring options to best serve the greatest number of our riders. If you are an Express Route rider and now work in the East End area, please email us and let us know which route you normally ride, your usual work hours and if you would be interested in service to the East End. We also welcome comments from those who are not current riders but would consider riding an Express Route if the service were extended into the East End. Please share this request for comment with fellow riders who may not receive email notifications. We are actively seeking comments from all concerned with this matter. For the 3 month duration, the Nextbus system will track YOLOBUS Routes 42A, 42B, both of which serve downtown Sacramento, Davis and Woodland and the Route 215 to Cache Creek Indian Bingo and Casino. To begin your Nextbus experience, log on to www.nextbus.com . If you have a wireless enabled cellular phone or PDA, click on "Wireless Access" to see if your device is supported and learn how to access the information from your device. Would you like to receive a "pop-up" alert that your bus will arrive shortly? Then click on "My Nextbus (Web Alerts)" and create your account. Browse the Nextbus site and see "live" reporting on bus movements by clicking on the "View a Real Time Arrival" button. Select the "Northern California Region", then select "Yolo County Transportation District", finally select the route you are interested in viewing, either the "42A", "42B" or "215". A list of the programmed stops will appear, choose your stop and click on it. The arrival times for the next two bus arrivals will appear and be updated every few seconds. Not sure which stop you will embark from? Click on the "Live Map" link next to the Route number display in mid-screen and you will go to an overview map of the entire route. Move your mouse cursor over the route segments and you will see arrival information for that bus stop displayed. Need a closer look? Just click on the "Zoom In" button in the upper left part of your screen. Linked to the Nextbus information system will be LED display signs at selected bus stops such as the CalEPA Building in Sacramento, Cache Creek Indian Bingo & Casino in Guinda, Yolo County Transportation District and County Fair Mall in Woodland. These signs will provide the correct time and real-time information on when the next bus is due at those stops. These same LED signs can be programmed with real-time emergency announcements to keep waiting passengers informed about potential problems on their chosen route.
