I am copying the Old North Board on this response. In April, as board secretary, I submitted an email to the city expressing the Old North board?s ?general support? for the project, but also stating it had yet to see any elevations. The board has consistently been in favor of second units as long as they are designed in such a manner that reflects the area?s design. The minutes from our meeting reflecting this item are as follows: Neighborhood Project 601 D Street. Penny Lorain, a local designer representing the property owner, presented an overview of this project to add a second unit and reconstruct the existing detached garage building. After discussion, the board was generally supportive of the project as presented. No elevations have yet been developed and some board members expressed interest in viewing more advanced plans. John Meyer was to notify city staff of the board?s initial position on this project. Prior to last week?s Planning Commission meeting, two Planning Commissioners wrote to me asking if the board had seen more recent and detailed plans. I responded that we had not, and offered some of my own comments that the parking pad geometry seemed quite tight and wondered if it was practical. The correspondence with the planning commissioner's is an attachment to this email. Perhaps these were what was characterized as a "letter of concern." You'll note that no opposition was expressed, yet I did raise the issue of whether the parking pad would function as such. The Old North board next meets on September 19. The Board is copied on this message, and the project can be placed on the agenda if you would like further discussion. While not at the Planning Commission meeting, it's my understanding that the project will soon again be considered by the Planning Commission and hopefully issues may be resolved at that meeting. ________________________________ From: home KARUILU Sent: Monday, September 2, 2019 7:47:24 PM To: john.meyer at live.com Cc: Penny Lorain Subject: [OldNorth] 601 D Street Dear John, My husband and I own the property at 601 D Street. As you are aware, we have submitted plans for a new garage and accessory unit. When we submitted our plan to the North Davis Neighborhood Board, we were told that our project was supported. Since that time we have had multiple design changes, requested by various city planners, that have been both costly and often contradictory. We have been working serval months to find a satisfactory plan that will be acceptable to the City, our neighbors and the various local committees. We have had several meetings with our designer and city planners and we felt we had made good progress. We were hoping to get an approval at the meeting on Aug 28th but were disappointed that this did not happen. Our designer, Penny Lorain, told us that you sent a Letter of Concern the day of the meeting. Would you be willing to give us advice on how to move forward with our project? We would appreciate any thoughts you could share with us. Thanking you in advance! Jessie Zhu and Michael Hoefer -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
