IRWS Opens in November!!


The IRWS will be opening its doors on
Sunday, November 29, 2009

The IRWS Board and some extremely dedicated volunteers are busy at  
work to make improvements on the program for this coming season.

If you would like to help us in this planning process, we'd love to  
have you!!  Just drop a line to one of the co-chairs:

Book Discussion Group Forming


A special six-week Book Discussion / Small Group is forming forGrace- 
in-Action and IRWS volunteers based on the book
"Yours Are the Hands of Christ".

When:  Thursdays, Oct. 1st - Nov. 5th
Time:    7:00pm - 8:30pm
Where: Grace House (441 D Street)

Enrollment fee is $30 and includes the book. Maximum of 15 members,  
sign ups will be taken based on a first enrolled basis.

Support Davis Community Meals


Davis Community Meals will be holding a fundraiser to help support  
their ongoing mission of providing open doors of hope for homeless and  
low-income individuals.  Your participation will go a long way toward  
helping our brothers and sisters living homeless.

3rd Annual Art Auction and Benefit
Saturday, Oct. 10th
  6:00pm
Davis Art Center (1919 F St.)

Individual tickets are $35.00 and can be purchased at Cable Car Wash  
(904 3rd Street) or at Davis Community Meals's office (202 F Street).

U.N. International Day of Peace


The Unity Center of Davis cordially invites IRWS members to celebrate  
the U.N. International Day of Peace with a Candlelight Prayer  
Service.  This is one way the IRWS can join other faiths in unity.

7:00pm - 8:00pm
Central Park

"The United Nations International Day of Peace is a global holiday  
when individuals, communities, nations and governments highlight  
efforts to end conflict and promote peace."

The purpose of the UBUNTU Newsletter is to educate and inform the  
greater Davis community about the IRWS during its 2009-2010 winter  
shelter season.  We hope the information provided serves as a vehicle  
for greater understanding of homelessness in the City of Davis, and  
inspires compassionate care for those without a secure, dry place to  
sleep.

The Interfaith Rotating Winter Shelter (IRWS) of Davis is a community- 
based effort enabling member congregations to provide cold-weather  
shelter and hospitality on a rotating basis to persons who are  
homeless in the Davis community.
