[OldNorth] Severe Weather Warnings

Here we go again, folks.

Strong storm conditions may produce periods of heavy rainfall, high
winds (30 mph), and colder temperatures throughout much of the
Sacramento Valley region. We should be prepared for localized flooding
of low lying areas, cold overnight temperatures in some locales,
further property damage from high winds, occasional commercial power
outages, and snow at lower elevations (2000').

We may see some streets flooded.

To prepare buy some meals of non-perishable foods (bread, cheese, dried
and canned fruit, and any canned main courses your family can tolerate
:-), flashlight/ batteries, a car cell phone charger, a wired phone,
gas in your car (to run cell phone charger). Chocolate is good too.

I found a headlamp useful for cooking (we have a gas stove).

Make sure your neighbors are OK if the power goes out for more than a
few hours. This storm is colder than the one previously so you might
want to consider a warming shelter if the need arises. The Red Cross
and the DAvis CERT teams will open them as the need arises.

If you have friends or relatives in senior residence complexes, check
on them. They may need some good advice about dressing in layers, no
cotton clothing. They may need some help retrieving extra blankets or
quilts from a guest bed or a high shelf in a closet.

Likewise if neighbors have a new born, that's another vulnerable to the
cold situation.

Please feel free to call me if you need something.

And have patience. Get out the board games. Clean out your closets.
Whatever.
