All,
This is the critical time for the Hunt Boyer Tank
House, orange trees, and a third of the City owned
Landmark Dresbach Hunt Boyer Mansion property.
The Project that is the subject of the EIR is
to demolish the Tank House and historic orange
trees and build a 3 story new building extending
from the sidewalk to the rear lot line, and from
the west wall of the Varsity Theatre to within 7
feet of the Mansion (essentially the entire current
brick patio area between the Varsity and the Mansion.)
The proposed new building would house a Mishka's
Cafe on the ground floor with 2 stories of offices
above. The architect is Maria Ogrydziak.
The City has indicated that either a ground lease
for the proposed building or outright sale of
of the Tank House/Orange Tree/Patio section of the
Landmark Mansion property are options.
The Draft EIR finds multiple significant and
unavoidable impacts of the Project and most
Alternatives.
Also note that the current Exclusive Negotiating
Agreement with the Project developer, Sinisa
Novakovic (owner of the current Mishka's Cafe)
expires Sept. 14th. The City probably hopes to
complete the environmental review and reach a
decision on the project before that date.
Please obtain a copy of the Draft EIR at
http://www.cityofdavis.org/cdd/MishkaCafe/
Note that written public comments must be
submitted by July 25th. If you have something
to say about this Project, now is the time to
do it, as this is the only formal public
comment period on this project.
The first public hearing will be before the
Historic Resources Management Commission on
July 16th. Please plan to attend.
