From jflofland at ucdavis.edu Wed May 18 17:35:31 2005 From: jflofland at ucdavis.edu (John Lofland) Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 17:35:31 -0700 Subject: [OldNorth] Fifth&E accident, 3:55 pm May 18 Message-ID: ONDers, At about 3:55 pm, Wed., May 18, a car proceeding north on E and trying to cross Fifth ran into the right front a west bound auto and was knocked westward and onto the northwest corner of Fifth and E, stopping just short of a fire hydrant there. None of the involved told the quickly responding firepeople they were hurt. I have long thought that this kind of very common accident in crossing Fifth can best be dealt with by having "right turn only" signs at each signal-less north-south approach to Fifth. Or, is that Draconian? Also, I am not certain that the OLD plan deals adequately with this kind of foolish north-south crossing at signal-less FIfth street intersections. John
