From winterety at sbcglobal.net Wed Nov 3 07:51:02 2004 From: winterety at sbcglobal.net (sheryl lynn gerety) Date: Wed, 3 Nov 2004 07:51:02 -0800 Subject: [OldNorth] Polito Reassignment Message-ID: <2A25CE9E-2DB0-11D9-B2B0-00039370746A@sbcglobal.net> Old North Neighbors: At our last monthly meeting the Board Members of the ONDNA voted to send the following letter to Davis City officials. I am posting a copy to the full neighborhood list so that you will be aware of it. I encourage any of you who know and have worked with Polito to express your own views, to City Officials and, if you wish, to the neighborhood organization. If you have questions, please contact any member of the Board. Bruce Winterhalder 1 November 2004 Mayor Asmundson; Council Members: Greenwald, Puntillo, Souza, and Saylor; City Manager, Jim Antonen; and, Community Development Director, Bill Emlen: We were distressed to learn that Esther Polito has been relieved of her duties as the City of Davis Planning Staff member with lead responsibility for the Conservation Districts and historic preservation, and as liaison with the Historic Resources Management Commission. Esther has been invaluable in helping our Old North neighborhood in discussions regarding growth, development, and preservation issues. She has shown a singular ability to balance the opportunities of responsible development with the need to preserve the character from which arises such high quality of life as Davis offers. She has always conducted City business with scrupulous attention to fairness and balance. The issues that she has worked on can often be contentious - but while she has her own opinions about development and preservation, as do many of us, Esther is far better than most at separating her personal opinion from her official duties. We fear that her dismissal is a signal that preservation is being given diminished importance by the City in legitimate debates about the pace, place and form of development in Davis. Esther Polito has made great contributions to Davis through her work. This action appears to be unfair to her skills and conscientious effort; it reflects badly on our City. We, the Board of the Old North Davis Neighborhood Association request that this action be reconsidered. We will sorely miss Polito?s dedicated efforts to help us all understand one another and arrive at fair and well-considered solutions to problems of zoning, in-fill, preservation and development, and other issues of great concern to the people of Davis. Passed unanimously, Thursday, October, 28th, 2004, Board, ONDNA (Dan Braunshweig, Dennis Dingemans, Dan Quickert, Steve Tracy, Andy Wallace, Angela Willson, and Bruce Winterhalder) Bruce Winterhalder -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
