From valerie at vanngroup.com Sun Sep 5 14:39:31 2004 From: valerie at vanngroup.com (Valerie Vann) Date: Sun, 05 Sep 2004 14:39:31 -0700 Subject: [OldNorth] Special Parking District References: <47D3CD40-FEF4-11D8-B355-00039370746A@sbcglobal.net> Message-ID: <413B8792.4AB72FDC@vanngroup.com> The map with the City mailing lead me to notice something that hadn't dawned on me before during the discussions, but which has posed a problem for me ever since the City painted parking places on my block (600 G) over 5 years ago. It applies to lots with driveway curb cuts: The map shows the restricted parking places 20 feet long starting at the left lot lines of the (generally) 50 foot lots. Where there is a driveway, this leaves a short (17-18 foot) unrestricted space next to the driveway. (50 ft. minus 20 ft minus 12 foot curb cut). This is exactly the situation in front of my house, i.e. a short space next to the driveway and then normal 20 foot spaces after that. Over the years this, people tend to use the short space regardless if their vehicle will fit in it, and end up with their rear end partly blocking the driveway. On the map, with blocks with multiple curb cuts, many of the unrestricted places will be these short ones, and people will tend to use them regardless. It would be better to place the restricted space to the left of the curb cut, and also perhaps to mark any short spaces "COMPACT ONLY". Valerie Vann
