The url for that goal is: http://forums.dcn.org/goals/viewforum.php?f=14&sid=14b6c7235ef8d4f17a8517f2ff5ddac6 the URL for the forums is: http://forums.dcn.org/goals/ Keith -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Dear Old East Davisites: The City of Davis is conducting a public on-line forum on the City's Goals. This is the forum that I mentioned at the June 28 Old East Davis meeting at Valerie's house. Here is the announcement from the Davis Community Network regarding the on-line forums. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "The Davis City Council's Goals and Key Objectives for 2004-2006." This Forum will be active for exactly three weeks: June 21 through July 11. The City of Davis has contracted with DCN to provide this Public Web Forum. The City Council is seeking public comments and dialogue on recently determined Goals and Objectives for the next two years. The Council and City staff will evaluate the many Forum postings, and will include public responses and recommendations in next-step decisionmaking. (link to download a PDF of the Goals and Objectives from the City web site: http://www.ci.davis.ca.us/story/pdfs/Council_Goals.pdf ) This multi-issue Forum is an experiment: an experiment in online democracy; in civic decisionmaking; and in community learning. Though there are inherent limitations to this relatively new form of engagement, and even to the structure and purpose of this specific Forum, we urge you to participate. The success or failure of this initiative will largely depend on broad community participation and on the nature of the postings. Take the high ground in your responses. As you will see, this Forum includes 7 First Tier Goals, followed by a number of Sub-Goals, followed by numbered Objectives. Second Tier Goals are also included. Each of these items may be responded to, individually or as a whole. The City Council has a prioritized interest in your responses to Goals 1-7. You are encouraged to add references to the discussions. For example, if you are suggesting strategies found in the General Plan, it will be helpful to include the page number or URL. DCN has assigned volunteer Moderators to help keep the postings on track and the Forum functioning effectively. Moderators are not editors. They will not alter content. The will offer light-handed assistance in enforcing the stated Forum Guidelines and Policies. Should you have any questions or problems, contact DCN Executive Director, Richard Lowenberg, rl at dcn.org . If you are a novice to using such online forums, we urge you to log in and experiment. Use the Sandbox, which you will find has been set up for you to play in. Click on active links and see what happens. Take a self-guided tour of the site and its functions. You won't get lost and there's nothing to harm. Read the listed Goals and Objectives, and read others' postings. Formulate your own response to an issue you care about. Its easy. And please, tell your family, friends and neighbors to log in and participate. Note that our proposal is to charge for both resident and visitor permits, and make resident permits specific to the vehicle. Still, there could be some similar abuse of the visitors' permits unless enforcement is strict and/or penalty for abuse high enough. Valerie, Maybe I was sleeping at the wrong time in a meeting... but I thought our proposal doesn't use permits at all, just has designated space for each house. ?? Up to 4 vehicle specific permits per house, which on our lots wouldn't all fit in front of one house.
