Old East Davis Neighbors--

MEETING MONDAY, JULY 12 6:00pm (note earlier time!)

This will be a board meeting, and all OEDNA members and associates
are welcome. Esther Polito will speak about neighborhood and zoning
options, and the earlier time is because this is the only time she
could come. This will *not* be a potluck, so plan to eat before or
after the meeting. The meeting will be at 223 J Street 6:00 - 7:30 pm.

NEW BOARD

Congratulations to our new board:

Well over thirty people attended our meeting last week. We voted
voted to increase the board size from four members to a minimum of
five up to a maximum of nine. The next term of "office" is Sep. 1
2004 to Sep 1 2005. The new, seven member board will start two
months early and serve July 1, 2004 to Sep. 1 2005. Congratulations
to the new board of the Old East Davis Neighborhood Association:

Alan C. Miller, 200 block of J Street
Barbara Boehler, 200 block of J Street
Ben Luna, 300 block of I Street
Cathy Forkas, 300 block of K Steet (Treasurer)
Darrell Peterson, 500 block of J Street (subject to acceptance)
Michael Knepp, 400 block of J Street
Valerie Jones, 400 block of J Street

HEARING ON 532 J STREET, Weds. July 7th

The next city meeting of interest will be at the Planning Commission
meeting on Wednesday July 7, 7:00pm, City Council Chambers. Check
city website for place in agenda. A neighborhood meeting was held on
this project on June 22. There was concern expressed about the mass
of the structure by immediate neighbors. Most in attendance found
the replacement structure was attractive, met design guidelines, and
was well below the square footage allowed. No one in the audience
expressed concern over demolition of the existing structure.

B STREET THREAT

Though not in our neighborhood, the razing of a house on the west
side of B Street between 3rd and 4th is of major concern to us. One
reason is the developer was one of the major opponents of the "Design
Guidelines." This house is proposed to be razed and replaced by four
high-density dorm boxes. The historical commission found THIRTEEN
violations of the Design Guidelines related to this project. We must
kill this project. If we do not, the door is open to all similar
projects if the speculators believe that the practical strength of
the design guidelines is nil.

Many of us spent much time working on the Guidelines, believing they
would help protect our neighborhood character. We are now entering
the phase where the strength of "Design Guidelines" are being put to
practical test. What we have are multiple threatened structures and
several proposed lots of ILLfill. That's were the DG's can be pushed
to, but was that the intent?

MONEY

Several large contributions from fellow neighbors have reinvigorated
our non-profit bank account at the Yolo Credit Union. If you can
help with a contribution of $10, $15, $20, $25, $50, $100 . . .
whatever you can give would be helpful. There will be duplicating,
informational, and legal costs as we move to protect our neighborhood
from "ILLfill." Checks should be made out to OEDNA, 336 K Street,
Davis, 95616.

FLYERS & EMAILS

We have a team of eight distributors who passed out flyers to about
170 addresses in the neighborhood, and our email list now has nearly
sixty addresses. The communication net is in place!

ALLIES

We are finding allies from Old North Davis Neighborhood Association,
University Neighborhood Association (proper name?) and Davis
Historical Society. We share many common interests and goals.
