After a year or so of speaking with people about the past, present and future of river restoration on the Trinity River, my lab at UC Berkeley is now undertaking an official survey of the watershed. The idea here is to extend the community polling the TRRP has conducted over the past few years, but now with a more rigorous study design in order to get a clearer picture of the values and attitudes constituting this complex issue. We also hope to learn more generally about people's relationship to the Trinity, what they value about its water, and what river restoration means to them personally. The idea here is to further democratize the restoration conversation by amplifying a diversity of  community perspectives on the river.
The survey will be open for the next month or so, and we'll do our independent analysis this Summer, and then present the results as a public report in the Fall. We'd also like to do a few public presentations of our findings up and down the watershed, so if you know of anyone who might be interested in hosting something like this, I'm all ears.  -
