The Hoopa Valley Tribe is slated to receive a $110,000 national grant for a project that'll remove a barrier on Hostler Creek that currently inhibits fish passage.
American Rivers -- an organization that works to protect and restore the nation's rivers and streams -- and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Restoration Center have partnered this year to provide financial and technical assistance to six projects throughout the nation, according to a press release.

One of the projects involves removing the Hostler Creek fish barrier, which prohibits juvenile and adult coho and Chinook salmon, as well as steelhead, from migrating upstream to high-quality habitat. According to the release, removal of the barrier is anticipated to allow fish access to more than three times the existing habitat in the creek.
