STOCKTON, CA A former Republican Congressman from California who
co-authored the Endangered Species Act (1973) will join farmers and
fishermen to support strong protections for endangered species and habitat
on Monday, September 26, in Stockton. They will call on Members of Congress
to support the Endangered Species Act, oppose a drastic rewrite of the Act,
and deliver thousands of signatures to the office of Representative Richard
Pombo (R-CA), the prime sponsor of the new bill.

Species
Farmers, Fishermen, and Republican Co-Author of
Endangered Species Act Speak Out Monday, Sept 26 in Stockton, CA
STOCKTON, CA A former Republican Congressman from California who
co-authored the Endangered Species Act (1973) will join farmers and
fishermen to support strong protections for endangered species and habitat
on Monday, September 26, in Stockton. They will call on Members of Congress
to support the Endangered Species Act, oppose a drastic rewrite of the Act,
and deliver thousands of signatures to the office of Representative Richard
Pombo (R-CA), the prime sponsor of the new bill.
On Thursday, September 22, the House Resources Committee approved H.R. 3824
which would weaken protections for endangered species and habitat. The House
of Representatives is scheduled to consider the bill the week of September
26th.
The San Joaquin Valley has become a principal battlefront in this national
debate. Residents of the Valley will discuss the importance of protecting
endangered species in the state, in order to protect agricultural lands,
open space, clean water, provide recreational opportunities while support
fishing jobs and local economies.
