My understanding is that the Forest Service is allowing the planned gold
mining operator on Canyon Creek to proceed with the felling of trees (and
this is underway) despite the generally accepted understanding that an EIS
is required. This is disastrous news for the Trinity River and its
restoration. I also understand that a large group of concerned citizens
that has been fighting this proposed operation is attempting to contact the
Forest Service (without success). Perhaps Sharon Heywood could be helpful
here - it needs immediate attention.
