ATHLETICS:
2019 is the year of Blue Devil Football. Come be a Champion!!! We have already embarked on our journey with Strength and Conditioning every M,T,Th,F at 6:40 a.m. in the DSHS Weight Room. Come join the team and feel the burn! In the words of the legendary coach Vince Lombardi "Some people are satisfied with seats at the 50 yard line, I came to play!" Don't be a spectator in life; come be part of something special that you will remember for the rest of your life! Be Epic, Be a Blue Devil Football Player!!!
The annual DSHS Football Parent/Guardian Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday Jan. 15th in the DSHS Library at 6:30 p.m. This is a mandatory meeting for parents/guardians where they will get information on the benefits of joining this football program and discover how the expectations and yearly schedule can assist their child in being successful in school, football, the community and in life by being part of something that they will never forget.
ACADEMICS/OPORTUNITIES/EVENTS:
DHS Concerto Competition Update: Due to the high number of student sign ups we will be having a preliminary round of concerto performances Tuesday January 22nd 5-8PM in room PA-8. This will be closed to the public, you will need an accompanist, and the judges will be stopping each performance once they have heard enough to make a ranking order judgement. The judges will be making cuts in order to narrow the final performance list to the top 8 performers.
The actual DHS Orchestra Concerto Competition will still be held Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 7:00pm on stage in the DHS Brunelle Performance Hall. It is open to all DHS instrumentalist and free to the public to view. The winner of this competition will be given the honor of performing with the DHS Symphony Orchestra as well as a check for $500.00.
All current students signed up must email Mr. Moreno before January 10th and indicate the name of the piece they are performing, how many minutes long it is, what instrument you play, and provide the spelling of your name and your email address. In-person sales are 2/18 to 3/1 @ lunch only at the Finance Office. If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact your counselor immediately.

Hey CSF! Our LAST meeting of the semester is this Friday, January 11th in P-13 at lunch. If you have only been to one meeting this semester, you need to come to this one to fulfill your semester requirements. Hope to see you there!

For the second year, Da Vinci Charter Academy is hosting an event-celebrating woman in STEM fields here at our campus on the evening of January, 29 at 6:15 pm in the MPR. This event is sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Explorit Science Center. The event is aimed at upper-elementary and middle school students but some high school students may find relevance as well. A flyer with registration details and the list of STEM speakers will follow in mid-January. Applications are now available for next year's ASB officer elections. Pick up an application in the ASC-100 (the Student Government room). Applications are due January 16th. Elections and Speeches will take place on February 1, 2019.
"Calling all singer-songwriters? The West Coast Songwriters Association is hosting its monthly open-mic and song-writing competition at the Melon Ball, in West Davis, on Monday, January 14th. It is unique opportunity to perform your song, receive feedback from knowledgeable judges, and network with fellow songwriters. If you join the association, your song will be entered into a competition. Prizes include a free recording session and tickets to the annual music conference. Doors open at 6:30 PM. Performances begin at 7:00 PM. CAREERS
The City of Davis is looking for a volunteer basketball coach for Montgomery Elementary's 3rd and 4th grade boy's team. Students must be at least 16 years old. Come to the Career Center for information on how to apply.
The City of Davis has two part-time summer jobs available for a lifeguard and a swim instructor. Applicants must be at least 15 years old and be able to attend mandatory trainings in June. Deadline to apply is February 8. Come to the Career Center for a job flyer.
The City of Davis is offering its annual So-Cal Safari College Tour for high school students from March 25-28 during spring break. Colleges visited on the tour are UC Santa Barbara, UCLA, CSU Long Beach, UC Irvine and USC. Cost is $530, which includes transportation, college tours, breakfast, dinner and hotels. Come to the Career Center for more information.
SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: If you would you like to do research at UC Davis this summer, the UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers high achieving high school students the opportunity to participate in a six-week summer research program June 23 - August 3 in biology and natural sciences at UC Davis. Students will stay in a UCD dorm and conduct research, participate in lab work, go on field trips and earn five units of university group credit. Applications are due March 16. Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees, and financial assistance.
