THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1917 - The U.S. Congress passed the Immigration Act of 1917 (Asiatic Barred Zone Act) with an overwhelming majority. The action overrode President Woodrow Wilson's December 14<http://on-this-day.com/onthisday/thedays/alldays/dec14.htm>, 1916 veto.

Lunch: Happy Tacos Tuesday! The ASC Café is now offering carnita tacos in addition to chicken, ground beef and vegan tacos!

Come to the Culture Club! Where you can learn about different cultures and gain a different perspective of cultures around the Globe. It will be happening in room P-23. At lunch every Tuesday. Hope to see you there!

Girls Basketball vs Pleasant Grove, 5:30JV/7:00V

Come cheer on the Davis Senior High Varsity Girls & Boys Basketball teams as they take on rivals St. Francis & Jesuit on Thursday, February 7 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento. Girls play at 6:00pm and boys play at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from a varsity team member or via the DSHS Finance Office. This is a fundraiser for the DSHS basketball programs. See you at the game!
ACADEMICS/OPORTUNITIES/EVENTS:

Valerie Red-Horse will be visiting Davis Senior High School on Thursday, February 7th.  She will be screening her film Mankiller which details the life of Wilma Mankiller, a Native American activist and the first female chief of the Cherokee Nation. The film will begin in Brunelle Theater at 6 p.m. and then following the film Ms. Red-Horse will give some remarks and take questions about Wilma Mankiller. This event is hosted by the DSHS PTA and the RSJ classes.
Any student wishing to take AP Art studio next year and has not completed the preliminary course, must submit a portfolio of their work to the Art Department by February 13.  See Ms. Diem in A1 to get an informational form if you are interested.

Open House 2019! DHS will host it's Open House on Tuesday, February 19th, from 5-7 p.m. come visit with our teachers and counselors and learn about our courses and programs.


Jazz Choir Cabaret Tickets On Sale Now - Tickets for the Jazz Choir Cabaret performances are on sale now. Dinner shows will be held Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17 at Emerson Junior High. This year's event boasts a delicious catered dinner - served by the performers - hand-made craft mocktails, silent auction, and a fabulous musical performance running throughout the evening. Doors open at 5 p.m. so guests can browse silent-auction items before enjoying the show, which starts at 6 p.m. A concert-only performance will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at Brunelle Performance Hall at DHS at 7pm. Attention all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade Orchestra String Students, The sign up schedule for the 2019-20 DHS Orchestra Program Placement Auditions will be posted in the music room (PA-3) this week.  The sign up deadline is set for Friday, February 8th so please sign up for a time ASAP.  Please  write clearly so I can create the final schedule accurately, which I will post in PA-3 the week of February 18th. Once the schedule is posted, please check your final posted time to make sure it is accurate and there is not a conflict for you.  When you sign up for an audition time also pick up the registration form that each student is required to fill out and turn in when they arrive for their audition. Please fill it out to turn in when you check in for your audition warm up time. I look forward to listening to all of your hard work, Mr. Moreno.

Join the School Social Climate Committee this Thursday at lunch to talk about social justice at DHS.  The meeting is in the Library West Conference Room. If you'd like to have a first-hand role in improving the school, the committee is the place for you. Our unique role between the school's administration and the students makes real change at DHS possible. The committee is also looking for new leadership for next year, so all who are interested should make sure to come! Pizza will be served.
CLUBS:
The next presentation for the Student Health & Wellness series is this Thursday, February 7th at lunch in room L-015. Guest speakers will be hosting a panel on the topic of Youth Empowerment and higher education. Stop by the Student Success Center or Academic Center to sign up.

Hey CSF! Registration is upon us and it lasts from February 4th until the 15th. Make sure you have your Semester 1 Report Card, a filled out pink registration form, $5, and a completed green hours sheet if you're a returning member.

Hey hey hey it's Friendship Day! Don't forget to turn in your friendship day permission slips by Wednesday the 6th. if you forget to do so, bring the permission slip with you to Friendship Day on Friday the 8th! All aboard the Friendship ship! Toot toot!

Hey Key Clubbers! We will be having registration this week during lunch in front of S-12. Please bring your completed hour sheet.

Mark your calendars for this Friday, February 8th, for the Environmental Club Movie Night! Come to the library at 7:00pm to watch Wall-E and hang out! Admission is free, but there will be a bake sale. See you there!

CAREERS:
If you are a student interested in STEM skills and careers, the Society of American Military Engineers is offering several Engineering and Construction summer camps where students will learn about teamwork, leadership, project management, and the many career options available in STEM fields.  Deadline to apply is March 15.  Come to the Career Center for a flyer.
