Inspire to Aspire mentoring program will meet for the first time at 2:45 in the DSHS library


Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment and noticing the thoughts and sensations that arise. Who should practice mindfulness? Everyone who would like to feel calmer, more connected, and generally happier. Mindfulness training will be held in room O-5 from 2:45 to 3:15. For more information contact Ms. Tabor in O-5

ACADEMICS/OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS:
Julius Achon, subject of the book The Boy Who Runs, will be speaking in Brunelle Theater at lunch on October 23rd.  He will also be speaking in the DSHS Library at 7 p.m. on October 23rd.  Achon was kidnapped by Joseph Kony's army when he was young.  He escaped and later fell in love with running.  He came to the US to run and attend university and later ran in the 2000 Olympics for his native country of Uganda.  Reminder: NO FOOD OR DRINK ARE ALLOWED IN BRUNELLE THEATER.

Seniors, Prestige Photography will be on campus on Friday, November 3rd, 2017 to take senior photos.
If you have not taken your senior photos please make sure to contact Marlen Cabrera, VP Secretary right away via email mosoriocabrera at djusd.net<mailto:mosoriocabrera at djusd.net> or by phone (530)757-5400 Ext: 113. If you want to appear in the senior section of the yearbook, you must take your senior photo through Prestige. The cost is $20 if you wish to purchase proofs and select your yearbook photo, or free if you do not wish to purchase proofs.

Parent meeting for Global Glimpse - October 19 (Thursday) at 6 pm in the library.  Interested students and parents are invited to attend.  A representative from the Global Glimpse main office will be explain this summer global leadership program.

Spring trip to Costa Rica:  interested students will meet at lunchtime on Friday, October 20.  Go to the counseling office for the meeting.

CLUBS:
Hey You! Oh, Yes! I am talking about you! Join UNICEF every other Thursday. The upcoming meeting is this Thursday, October 19. We have lots of fun events coming up such as attending a city council meeting and trick or treat for UNICEF!

DHS BSU will be having meetings every Monday at lunch in room P-11. Come and enjoy free food, and learn more about cultural diversity.

This Wednesday, Philosophy Club will be having its second meeting. Come join us in room P-22 during lunch! We'll be discussing argument forms and fallacies. See you there!

Interested in learning about Judaism? Come to the Jewish Student Union meeting on Thursday, October 19th in N-9 during lunch.

Team HBV will be having a fundraiser at Teabo (near Safeway) on Friday, October 20th, from 6pm to 12am. Come to drink Boba and contribute to effort to raise awareness about Hepatitis B Virus treatment and vaccination and stop liver cancer!

Guy, gals, and non-binary pals! It's LGBTQ + History Month! Come join the GSA's discussion in Mr. Moore's room P-21, on the second floor near the elevator.

CAREERS:
The Davis Waldorf School is looking for volunteers to help clean-up at their Halloween event on Saturday, October 28th from 8:00 - 9:30 pm.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

North Davis Elementary school needs CABIN LEADERS for their trip to Walker Creek from January 8-12. The deadline to apply is November 1. Come to the Career Center for an application.
Financial Literacy classes are back! Here's your chance to become financially savvy!  On Friday, October 20 at lunch, the Yolo Federal Credit Union, in partnership with the PTA, will hold the first free Financial Literacy class of the year. This month's topic is Money Management, Part 1 which will cover topics such as savings and checking accounts, check writing, balancing a check book, and more.  Sign up in the Career Center.

The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is accepting applications from sophomores and juniors for summer 2018 sessions on the Yale campus. Each two-week session is designed to enhance students' abilities to understand and think critically about contemporary global issues. Students will learn from distinguished Yale faculty members and participate in seminars.  Deadline to apply is February 6.  Come to the Career Center for more information.
