THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1985- The Titanic was found by Dr. Robert Ballard and Jean Louis Michael in a joint U.S. and French expedition. The wreck site is located 963 miles northeast of New York and 453 miles southeast of the Newfoundland coast.

ACADEMICS/OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS: PSAT is this Saturday, 10/14!! The cost is $24.00. There are NO Refunds and no transfers. Sales end 10/3. There are a limited number of test available. If you feel this is a financial hardship, please contact your counselor immediately.
Juniors only: Online purchasing is available 9/5-10/3 @ dshs.djusd.net
Sophomores: Online purchasing is available 9/18-10/3 @ dshs.djusd.net and is subject to availability.
In-person sign-ups will be held during lunch only, 9/25-10/3 at the Finance Office outside window.
Students or parents can pay in person via credit card, cash or check payable to Davis High School or DHS.
GUITAR LESSONS: John Oster will be returning this year to give guitar lessons. He will be in room L-14 every Wednesday from 2:45pm to 4:00pm. Lesson will begin on September 6. Sign-ups with be in 15 minute increments. If interested please contact Courtney Tessler.
Oh My God you guys! Auditions for the Fall Musical "Legally Blonde" are coming up! You must attend one workshop, either on August 31st or September 1st, starting @ 4pm in the choir room. Auditions on September 5th and 6th also at 4pm in P-11.
Interested in joining Academic Decathlon? Come to our introductory meeting on Tuesday, September 5th during lunch in T-03, Mr. Barclay's room. There will be food!
CLUBS:
If you have a club and need funding, look no further than the ASB Clubs Grant. Pick up an application in N-1A and see if you qualify. Are you in a club or if you were a member last year fill out a continuing application. Do you have a great idea for a club! Pick up a new Club Application Form in N-1A.
The GSA's first meeting of the year is this Friday! We will be in Mr. Moore's room, P-21, on the second floor near the elevator with some free snacks during lunch.
MAST is back! The Math and Science Tutors Club will be held in S-9 Monday through Thursday at lunch starting Tuesday, September 5th. There will be an informational meeting Thursday, September 7th. Come get math and science help or apply to be a tutor, all are welcome! Tutors can get community service hours for your work.
CAREERS:
Davis Senior High School's Career Center is open and now can be easily access though the new door on the quad!
Come to the Career Center for help with the college planning, applying for scholarships and financial aid, job volunteer opportunities, summer activities, study abroad programs, and much more! Students and parents are welcome to visit the Career Center Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
College visits begin this week in the Career Center, starting with UC Santa Cruz on Friday, September 1 at 11:15 am. College admissions reps from across the country will be visiting the Career Center through the fall. These visits are a great way to learn about colleges you may be interested in attending. The college visit schedule is posted in the Career Center if you need help with Naviance or for more information about college visits!
If you are interested in participating in a youth exchange program, come to the Career Center to apply for our local Rotary Club's Youth Exchange study-abroad opportunity. The program promotes international understanding, goodwill and peace. Students spend a year in another country, learn a new language and culture, live with host families and attend classes at a local school. Students must be between 15 and 18 years old, be above-average students and have volunteered in their community. Come to the Career Center for an application.
Junior interested in learning what it's like to be an FBI agent can now apply for the FBI Teen Academy held on Friday, November 17 at the Sacramento FBI headquarters. At the academy, students will learn about FBI careers, the types of cases the FBI investigates, and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle free of crime, drugs, gangs and violence. Deadline to apply is October 12. Come to the Career Center for more information.
