THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1889 Nintendo is founded. The Japanese gaming company was created by entrepreneur Fusajiro Yamauchi as a card company called Nintendo Koppai. The company originally produced and sold playing cards called Hanafuda. The release of Donkey Kong, an arcade game in 1981, brought Nintendo to the forefront of electronic and video games industry.

Do you enjoy the snow and the mountains? Do you want a great experience and improve your skills while making friends? The Davis High School Snowboard Team is for you! The snowboard team is having an information meeting on Tuesday September 27th at 7:00 PM in the Davis High School Library. The team welcomes all 9th-12 grade men and women. This meeting is for all interested members and parents.

Reminder to all DHS girls interested in playing softball for DHS this spring: There is a parent/player meeting in the DHS Library at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 28th.  If you have any interest in playing at either the JV or Varsity level please attend.
TODAY:  Have you ever thought your dance moves were so cool you should be idolized by the school and win cash prizes?  The Davis High Advanced Treble Choir is hosting a "So You Think You Can Dance? Competition".  Small groups and individuals can compete to win $200.  Applications are available in PA-8 and are due Friday, 9/23.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The world-renowned HOCO Spirit Week is here!  The week kicks off with 'Murica Monday,' followed by 'Trucker Tuesday,' 'Where'd you go Wednesday,' and 'Jet Lag Thursday.'  The week will end in 'Keep Davis Blue' Friday.  Make sure you wear that blue to the Homecoming game that night!

The DHS PTA invites students and parents to attend a free presentation of 'The Gap Year; taking the time to maximize your future.'  Our invited speaker, Ethan Knight, is the founder of "American Gap Association.  www.americangap.org. This presentation will be a guide to building your own Gap Year.  We will touch on the role parents should have, some planning and funding techniques and how to present this experience to colleges.  As part of our discussion, we will have a panel of Gap Year alumni to share first-person stories.  This presentation will be held on October 6, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Richard Brunelle Theater on the DHS campus.  Reserve a seat at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2601909 .

If you did not get your picture taken during schedule pick-up days and/or need a student ID card, make sure to attend the PICTURE MAKE UP DAY, September 27th in the DSHS Library. Lifetouch representatives will be there to take pictures from 8:30am to 3:00pm.

Back to School Night is next Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 6:00pm to 8:10pm. Student Government will host a BBQ in the Quad at 5:30pm. Make sure to tell your parents to mark their calendars!!

Attention all 4th period classes: The Homecoming Door Decoration contest started on Wednesday, September 21. All classes will receive a starter kit and the participating classes will be judged on September 28th.  The winning class will receive a pizza party so we hope to see some awesome designs!

Come watch the Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 30th starting at 1:15.  The parade will start at Central Park and make its way back to DHS.

Do you have a special someone that want to boogie with all the way around the world? Come to the Fall Dance!  Tickets sold 9/21 to 9/29 at lunch in the Finance Office are $10 with ASB and $15 without.  Come and have a globally good time!

ACADEMICS: PSAT is Saturday, 10/15!! The cost is $24.00. There are NO Refunds and no transfers. Sales end 10/3. There are a limited number of tests available. If you feel this is a financial hardship, please contact your counselor immediately. *Juniors only: Online purchasing is available 9/1 - 10/3 @ dshs.djusd.net

OPPORTUNITIES: Support the Arts at DHS by joining the Brunelle Theater Student Usher Program.  Earn volunteer hours, gain customer service skills, and get to see performances for free.  All interested students should attend a one hour orientation session, on Oct. 4th at 3:45pm or Oct. 5th at 2:45pm in the lobby at the front of the Brunelle Theater.   Students who ushered last year are encouraged to attend the advanced training on Wed. Sept 21st at 2:45 to become a House Manager.   The Brunelle Theater is home to over 125 performances and events each year.  Come to an orientation and see how you can be involved!  All are welcome!  No experience necessary!

Hey Juniors! Want to be in the Homecoming Parade or get some volunteer hours?  Help build the Junior Class float from September 26th - 29th from 3:30-8:00.  Feel free to stop by for either the whole time or just for an hour.  It's up to you! For more information, come to N1-A at lunch.

CLUBS:
Come to room S-5 on Monday, September 26 at lunch for the first Teen Health Awareness Club meeting. Throughout the year we will host lectures, volunteer and raise awareness for a healthy lifestyle.

Do you want to be involved with the food waste system at DHS this year?  If so, join Green Team!  We are a dedicated group of students that work with the schools' recycling and compost systems.  Come today to D-4 at lunch for cookies and information.

Looking for the adventure of a lifetime this summer?  Want to go to Korea?  Come to L-23 on Tuesdays at lunch for Cultural Exchange Club to learn more! Snacks included!

Hey DHS!  A new club just started in Mr. Vasquez' room: the C.C.G.C.  If you like to play collectible card games like Majiz or Hearthstone, come to N1-A on Tuesdays to test your skills or watch others get wrecked.

The DHS Car Club is moving the meetings to Tuesdays at lunch in the auto shop!  We are also holding a t-shirt design contest for the 2016-2017 Car Club Shirt! The design can be submitted to any car club member or emailed to rthayer at djusd.net or Davishighcarclub at gmail.com.  The contest ends Monday October 3rd The winner gets a free shirt and oil change."

Attention all NHS members! NHS will hold its first semester registration in front of S-12 until September 23.  Make sure to register early as it gets crowded in the last day.  Bring $5, your report card, student ID and your hours sheet if you are a returning member.  Hope to see you!

If you are interested in the galaxy and science, try out the Astronomy Club! Meetings are in S-2 every other Wednesday, including next Wednesday, September 29th. Hope to see you there.

Did you know that Hepatitis B affects more people every year than HIV?  Join Team HBV to help raise awareness of this silent killer.  Team HBV meets every Tuesday in S-5.  Our first meeting will be on 9/27.

Club applications are now available!  Pick one up in the Student Government room (N-1A) and turn it in by September 25th.

Please send email to the DHS PTA Media Listserve at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org. Include your email address and phone number in case there are questions about your submission. Remember this is a great way to notify, inform or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.
