THIS DAY IN HISTORY: In 1584, French explorer Jacques Cartier reported that he had found "gros melons." The word translated to "pompions" in English. The term eventually evolved into "pumpkin."

ATHLETICS: Girls Golf Masters @ The Reserve at Spanos - All Day Dismissal All Day
Athletics - There will be a Winter Athlete/Parent meeting on November 14th at 6:30pm in the North Gym. All students that participate on a winter sports team must attend with at least one parent.
Winter sports tryouts begin November 7th. If you plan to tryout, please make sure to bring your completed sports physical packet to the Athletics Office to get your clearance card. If you are currently participating in a Fall sport, stop by to get a copy of your clearance card to take to your Winter tryout.
JOB OPPORTUNITY: The City of Davis is hiring JUNIOR BASKETBALL COACHES and OFFICIALS. Pay ranges from $10.50 - $12.28 per hour. Students will work between 3-10 hours per week. Coaches and officials will teach basic basketball fundamentals and skills for 3rd through 6th grade boys and girls basketball teams. Come to the Career Center for more information.
TODAY: SENIORS: If you are applying to private colleges, your letter of recommendation packet needs to be given to your counselor and teachers no later than October 31.
ACADEMICS: SAT @ DSHS - 11/5 Students registered to take the SAT at DSHS on Saturday, 11/5 please report to N4 by 7:30am and bring your admission ticket and photo ID.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: Congratulations to the JV Field Hockey Team for winning first place in the EAL League for the 5th year in a row!
Students, bus passes are sold in the Finance Office at lunchtime only. $6 will buy a 10 ride pass, $25 will buy a month's pass. Cash only, please!
OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS: Boo!! Halloween is right around the corner. Make sure to wear your school appropriate costumes to school on Monday for a chance to win a prize in the costume contest at lunch on the quad. No weapons, masks or clowns!
Acme Theater presents: 'Pronoun' by Evan Placey, a love story about transition, testosterone and James Dean. Auditions will be held November 8-10 in Room S-1 and are open to current 9-12th grade students. The DHS Blackout shirts are still available to purchase. They are $5. Come by the Athletic Department to purchase your black-out shirt while supplies last!
Cabin Leaders are needed for the Walker Creek trip from November 28 - December 2 for Korematsu Elementary. Come to the Career Center for an application.
CABIN LEADERS are needed for North Davis Elementary School's trip to Walker Creek January 9-13. Applications are available in the Career Center. The deadline to apply is November 2.
Can you pogo stick? Can you do aerobic hacky sack while singing? Got hecka guitar skills? Do you have the voice of an angel? Then you should sign up for DHS Factor. DHS Factor is a talent and variety show and will be on November 18th. Applications are due in N1-A by November 2.
CLUBS: This year's Club Fair is Tuesday, November 8. If you are a member of a club and would like your club to participate, pick up an application in N1-A. Applications are due Tuesday, November 1.
