THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1964 - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his non-violent resistance to racial prejudice in America. He was the youngest person to receive the award.

Winter sports tryouts begin November 7th. If you plan to tryout, please make sure to bring your completed sports physical packet to the Athletics Office to get your clearance card. If you are currently participating in a Fall sport, stop by to get a copy of your clearance card to take to your Winter tryout.

TODAY:  Seniors: If you have not taken your senior photos, please come to the main office to schedule an appointment with Carmen today and tomorrow during lunch or after school. We will not be scheduling appointments for retakes, please contact Prestige.

Interested in politics?  Want to improve your community, educate yourself or express your political views?  Then put the Blue back in Blue Devils and come to the Young Democrats' first meeting TODAY in Ms. Hamrick's room, N-2 at lunch.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS:  On October 19th at the Richard Brunelle Theater from 7:00 - 9:00 pm, the Davis Parent University will present Ron Lieber, NY Times columnist and bestselling author of "The Opposite of Spoiled."  This lecture will cover raising financially literate kids who are more generous and less materialistic.  Free tickets are available through davisparentuniversity.com to reserve and view past lectures.  Doors open at 6:15 pm.

The Red Cross Club is planning for the first blood drive of the year on Friday, 10/21 in the North Gym.  Giving blood takes approximately one hour from start to finish and is safe and easy.  To donate blood, you must be at least 16, weigh at least 110 and be free from cold/flu symptoms for at least 48 hours.  If you are interested in donating, please sign up at the quad at lunch this week or at the nurse's office by Thursday, 10/20.  Parent permission slips are required for 16 and 17 year olds.  Walk-ins are accepted only if you are 18 or older.  For more information, see Ms. Youtsey, the school nurse.

Come watch your peers fight for cash prizes at ATC's first annual 'So You Think You Can Dance?' competition on Saturday, October 15.  Tickets are available for $5 presale from ATC members and on the quad at lunch, or $10 at the door. Buy your tickets now before they sell out!

ACADEMICS:  Hey Sophomores! Congrats on finishing the first quarter!  Keep on studying and working hard.   In celebration, some Link Leaders will be handing out candy at the quad during lunch this Friday to sophomores!  Hope to see you there!

Sacramento City College is hosting a Preview Day on Saturday, October 15 from 1:00 - 5:00 at the Sacramento campus.  The event features information on financial aid, how to apply to Sac City, campus tours, informational booths, performances and much more!  Come to the Career Center for more information.

CLUBS: A new food waste system is coming to DHS!  If you want to be involved with the system, come to Green Team on Mondays at lunch in C-4!

Pansexuality describes attraction to people regardless of their sex or gender.  Want to learn more and eat some free snacks? Come to the Genders and Sexualities Alliance meeting this Friday in L-20 at lunch above the library.
