Athletes interested in participating in DHS Boys Volleyball, there will be pre-season weight lifting Monday & Wednesday 4:00-5:30pm at the DHS weight room and continuing until tryouts on Feb 8th. JV Girls Soccer Conditioning & Tryouts:  Conditioning February 2-4 from 4-6pm at DHS soccer field for 9th and 10th graders. (Bring running shoes, cleats, water and athletic clearance cards). Tickets are now on sale for the Annual Football Fundraiser the Gridiron Gala on Saturday, January 30th at Davis Odd Fellows Hall. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.davishighfootball.org   The evening features a casual event with appetizers, beverages, and auction items that will give all Blue Devil supporters a chance to socialize, celebrate and raise funds to support our team. Enter the raffle to win an iPad Air 2.  Raffle tickets are $10 and you do not need to be present at the Gala to win. Raffle tickets may be purchased from a varsity football player and are also available at the Davis Sports Shop whom we thank for their continued support of DHS sports.

Today is the last day for Key Club registration for the spring term!  Make sure to stop by S-12 at lunch before Wednesday, 1/27!  Old members only need to bring their completed fall hours sheet and new members should bring $7 to register.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: Juniors interested in learning what it’s like to be an FBI agent can now apply for the FBI’s spring 2016 Sacramento FBI Teen Academy.  The academy takes place on March 18 at the Sacramento FBI field office headquarters.  Students will participate in interactive FBI related classes and take part in hands-on experiences. Deadline to apply is February 12.  Come to the Career Center for more information.



JUNIORS AND SENIORS:  Would you like to do research at UC Davis this summer?  The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers a six-week summer research opportunity in biology and the natural sciences for high achieving high school students June 19-July 30.  Students will stay in a UC dorm and conduct research, participate in lab work, go on field trips and earn 5 units of university credit.  Applications are due March 17.  Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees, and financial assistance.



Hispanic or Latino juniors are invited to apply for an all-expense paid Summer Scholars Program at the University of Chicago.  Students will experience college life, attend one of two Summer Session Insight courses, and participate in college application workshops.  The program will take place June 18–​July 8 and applications are due by March 15.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

If you are a junior boy or junior girl interested in government, come to the Career Center to apply for the American Legion Boys State and Girls State all-expense paid summer programs.  Students will actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government. Those who apply must be strong academically, have leadership skills and an interest in community and government. Deadline to apply is February 12.  Applications are available in the Career Center.

ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES:  Attention all past and present chemistry enthusiasts!  Dates for the 2016 Chemistry Olympiad sponsored by the American Chemical Society have been announced.  It will be given on March 19 at Sacramento City College, beginning at 9:00 am followed by a nitrogen ice cream party.  See Mr. Van Muyden in Room S-9 if you are interested.  The registration deadline is February 5th.

Davis Idol is coming! Come and hear our DHS students wow us with their signing talent!  Tickets are on sale now from any ATC (Advanced Treble Choir) member or at Watermelon Music for the red carpet finale on January 30th and are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

GRAD NIGHT TICKET PRICE TO INCREASE SOON! Get your Grad Night ticket before prices increase February 1. Every graduating senior in Davis (Da Vinci, DSIS, King and Davis High) is welcome to celebrate at this all-night, off-the-hook, alcohol/drug-free party on Friday, June 10. CLUBS:  Hallo and Wilkommen!  The German Club is meeting Tuesdays at lunch in N-2, Ms. Hamrick’s room.  If you are interested in playing German games, exploring German culture and eating delicious German pastries, feel free to come on by!
