JV Girls Soccer Conditioning & Tryouts:  Conditioning February 2-4 from 4-6pm at DHS soccer field for 9th and 10th graders. (bring running shoes, cleats, water and athletic clearance cards). Tickets are now on sale for the Annual Football Fundraiser the Gridiron Gala on Saturday, January 30th at Davis Odd Fellows Hall. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.davishighfootball.org   The evening features a casual event with appetizers, beverages, and auction items that will give all Blue Devil supporters a chance to socialize, celebrate and raise funds to support our team. Enter the raffle to win an iPad Air 2.  Raffle tickets are $10 and you do not need to be present at the Gala to win. Raffle tickets may be purchased from a varsity football player and are also available at the Davis Sports Shop whom we thank for their continued support of DHS sports.

TODAY: DHS Swim Coaches will hold a parent information meeting on January 25th at 7:30 pm in the DHS Library to provide details regarding the upcoming season. Swim season begins on February 8th.

This is the last week for Key Club registration for the spring term!  Make sure to stop by S-12 at lunch before Wednesday, 1/27!  Old members only need to bring their completed fall hours sheet and new members should bring $7 to register.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: Hispanic or Latino juniors are invited to apply for an all-expense paid Summer Scholars Program at the University of Chicago.  Students will experience college life, attend one of two Summer Session Insight courses, and participate in college application workshops.  The program will take place June 18–​July 8 and applications are due by March 15.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Link Crew leaders – come to L-23 on Tuesday, January 26 at noon for a quick meeting to talk about new developments.  Bring your lunch.

Library After-Hours computer and internet access are changing.  Now open Monday through Thursday, 5:00-7:15.  Use Chromebooks, printers, work on homework, etc.  No more Saturdays.

If you are a junior boy or junior girl interested in government, come to the Career Center to apply for the American Legion Boys State and Girls State all-expense paid summer programs.  Students will actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government. Those who apply must be strong academically, have leadership skills and an interest in community and government. Deadline to apply is February 12.  Applications are available in the Career Center.

It’s time to apply for the annual COSMOS four-week summer program for talented and motivated students in grades 8-12.  Students live on a UC campus and attend classes, labs and work with researchers in the STEM related fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  Applications are due February 19.  Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees, financial assistance and how to apply.

ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES:  Attention all past and present chemistry enthusiasts!  Dates for the 2016 Chemistry Olympiad sponsored by the American Chemical Society have been announced.  It will be given on March 19 at Sacramento City College, beginning at 9:00 am followed by a nitrogen ice cream party.  See Mr. Van Muyden in Room S-9 if you are interested.  The registration deadline is February 5th.

Davis Idol is coming! Come and hear our DHS students wow us with their signing talent!  Tickets are on sale now from any ATC (Advanced Treble Choir) member or at Watermelon Music for the finale on January 30th are $25.00.  Individual tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.  Tickets for the red-carpet finale on January 30th are $10 in advance or $12 at the door.  There will be fabulous music entertainment all three nights.  Tickets frequently sell out so don’t miss the fun!

DHS Student Leaders of Clubs, Booster Groups, and ASB: today, Monday, January 25th is the deadline to submit information and articles for the February issue of the DHS PTA Newsletter.  Please send news, announcements, etc. to the DHS PTA Media Listserve at DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org<mailto:DHSPTAmedia at mailman.dcn.org> and include your name and a parent or faculty name and contact information (email address and phone number) in case the newsletter editor has questions about your submission. The newsletter is generally available around the 1st of each month. This is a great way to inform, notify or enlist parents' help for upcoming DHS school and student activities.
