THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  2002 - The exhibit "In the Spirit of Martin: The Living Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." opened at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. More than 100 artists supplied the collection of 120 works of art.

Tickets are now on sale for the Annual Football Fundraiser the Gridiron Gala on Saturday, January 30th at Davis Odd Fellows Hall. Tickets are $25 and are available at www.davishighfootball.org   The evening features a casual event with appetizers, beverages, and auction items that will give all Blue Devil supporters a chance to socialize, celebrate and raise money to support our team. Enter the raffle to win an iPad Air 2.  Raffle tickets are $10 and you do not need to be present at the Gala to win. Raffle tickets may be purchased from a varsity football player and are also available at the Davis Sports Shop whom we thank for their continued support of DHS sports.

TODAY: Come join the Brunelle Theater student usher program.  Earn volunteer hours, gain customers service skills, and get to see performances for free.  The next orientation is Wednesday January 13th at 2:45pm in the lobby at the front of the Brunelle Theater.   All are welcome!  No experience necessary!

The Davis High School track and field team is looking for jumpers, sprinters, throwers, hurdlers and distance runners!  If you are interested in joining the 2016 Track and Field team, please attend an informational meeting on January 13 in the DHS Library.  The meeting will begin at 6:00 pm. Remember that auditions for the spring play, 'The Eden Project' are today, Wednesday, January 13th at 3:00 pm in P-11.  This original Sci-Fi play is something you won't want to miss!

A United States Army representative will be on the quad Wednesday at lunch to answer your questions.  If it rains on Wednesday, the Army representative will be in the Career Center at lunch.

ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES:  JUNIORS:  Would you like to participate in Rotary Club's all-expense paid Camp Royal youth leadership camp this summer?  This leadership-training camp for juniors is filled with information, ideas and strategies that will help you become a more effective leader. The deadline to apply is February 12.  Come to the Career Center for an application.

JUNIORS:  The Rotary Club is sponsoring Camp Venture for juniors, an all-expense paid training and motivational summer camp for juniors interested in pursuing a career in business, particularly as entrepreneurs.  The camp will be held at CSU Maritime Academy in June.  The deadline to apply is February 12.  Come to the Career Center for an application.

If you are interested in becoming a doctor, you should attend Phi Delta Epsilon's Pre-Medical Youth Conference on Saturday, April 2 on the UC Davis campus.  You'll learn what it takes to get into medical school, how to be a successful pre-med student, give shots, measure blood pressure, witness and perform a suture procedure and more.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Are you a Latino student wanting to earn a college degree?  If so, you should attend the annual Steps to College Fair to learn about college opportunities and financial aid available to Latino students.  The event will take place on Saturday, February 6 from 8:00-2:00 at the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

CLUBS: Mu Alpha Theta is the National High School Mathematics Honor Society with over 75,000 student members in more than 1,500 schools.  The DHS Mu Alpha Theta chapter sponsors the Davis Senior High School Math Team which competes in regional monthly meets and organizes the annual Davis Math Tournament for elementary and middle school students.  Come to the meeting this Thursday, 1/14 for more information in N-5 at lunch.
