ACADEMICS: Hey sophomores! Link Crew will be hosting final study sessions on the 16th in L-23, Mr. Williams’ room, from 2:30-4:30. You can study alone or with the help of Link Leaders.
Finals are coming up and if you need help with your math and science finals, then you should come to MAST every day this week, except Thursday in Mr. Van Muyden’s room, S-9. Also, if you would like to become a MAST tutor, applications will be open from 12/26 to 1/13/17.
Are you looking for a quiet place to study? Do you need to use a computer? If you answered yes to any of these questions, come to the Internet After Hours program at DHS Library. We are open every Monday through Thursday from 5:00 p m – 7:15 pm. All DJUSD students and their families are welcome.
Are you interested in biology? If so, you may want to take the USABO Open Exam in February. The USABO Open Exam is a 50-minute multiple choice exam available to all high school students. It focuses on animal and plant anatomy and physiology, cell biology. Genetics and evolution. Students who qualify could represent the United States in international competition. SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Would you like to do research at UC Davis this summer? The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers a six-week summer research opportunity in biology and the natural sciences for high achieving high school students June 25 – August 5. Students will stay in a UC dorm and conduct research, participate in lab work, go on field trips and earn 5 units of university credit. Applications are due March 16th. Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees and financial assistance.
OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS/MISCELLANEOUS: Join us this Sunday, December 18th from 4 to 5:30 p.m. for our 6th (or 7th? Who's counting?) Annual Caroling in the Nugget Plaza (between CVS and Nugget on Covell). We'll have song books. You bring your voices, your holiday spirit and a few dollars to put in the basket. All money raised will buy gift cards that will be distributed by the Davis High counseling staff to students in need. This is a chance to make the holiday brighter for deserving young people in our community. If you can't sing, come by and drop a few dollars in our basket. Holiday Grams are being sold now through next Monday on the Quad at lunchtime. Candy canes will be sold one for $1 or 3 for $2. They will be delivered during 4th period on Monday of Finals Week.
Attention all DHS instrumental soloists announcing this year’s DHS Concerto Competition: The annual DHS Orchestra Concerto Competition will be held Wednesday, January 11th, 2017 at 7:00pm on stage in the DHS Brunelle Performance Hall. It is open to all DHS instrumentalist and free to the public to view. The winner of this competition will be given the honor of performing with the DHS Symphony Orchestra at the Mondavi Center in Jackson Hall at the Wennberg Music Festival on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at 2:30pm as well as a check for $500.00. A sign-up sheet and informational flyer are now on the window of the computer lab in PA-3. Deadline to sign up is Friday December 23rd, 2016.
