THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1941 - Pearl Harbor, located on the Hawaiian island of Oahu was attacked by nearly 200 Japanese warplanes. The attack resulted in the U.S. entering into World War II.

Astronomy Club will be meeting this Wednesday at lunch in Room S-8, Mr. Osborn’s room. We will be looking at telescopes and will discuss a new project. Did you know: Johannes Kaplan, a famous astronomer, astrologer and mathematician was born this month in 1571.
ACADEMICS : Sophomores, come to the study session Link Crew will be holding on the 13th, 15th and 16th. It will be held in L-23 (Mr. Williams’ room) and you can study for finals there – either on your own or with the help of Link Leaders. Hours will be from 2:30 to 5:30 on the 13th and 16th and 12:10 to 5:00 on the 15th.
Any student interested in taking AP Art Studio next year may want to come to our informational meeting in A-1 on Friday, Dec. 9. Bring your lunch.
Are you interested in pursuing a career in fields such as Fashion, Graphic Design, Digital Arts, Social Media Marketing, or Interior Design? If so, come to the Career Center on Friday, December 9 at 10:00 am to meet with a college representative from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
Students interested in research are invited to participate in Pioneer Academics’ Global Research Program. Students who participate in this online program will conduct advanced college-level research with distinguished professors at leading U.S. colleges and universities; write a groundbreaking undergraduate-level research paper and earn two college credits. Come to the Career Center for more information.
SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS: Would you like to do research at UC Davis this summer? The UC Davis Young Scholars Program offers a six-week summer research opportunity in biology and the natural sciences for high achieving high school students June 25 – August 5. Students will stay in a UC dorm and conduct research, participate in lab work, go on field trips and earn 5 units of university credit. Applications are due March 16th. Come to the Career Center for information about the program, fees and financial assistance.
The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is now accepting applications for summer 2017 sessions on the Yale campus. Each session is two weeks long and brings together Yale’s best faculty to provide an intense, hands-on experience that combines lectures, seminars, and small-group discussions to challenge and inspire high school students. Students receive intensive training in critical thinking, verbal expression and writing. Deadline to apply is January 31st. Come to the Career Center for more information.
OPPORTUNITIES/EVENTS/MISCELLANEOUS: Do you have a singing voice that you want to show off? Then sign up for ATC’s Davis Idol: You can sing a solo, duet, trio and more. Applications are in Pa-8 and are due on December 23rd.
Learn to be financially savvy! On December 16 beginning at 11:55, the Yolo Federal Credit Union, in partnership with the PTA, will hold the first free Financial Literacy class in the Career Center. Pizza will be provided. The topic will be Debit Cards and How They Work, and Checks (check writing, balancing a check book and more)." Sign-up in the Career Center. The class size is limited to the first 30 students who sign-up.
