THIS DAY IN HISTORY:  1869 - Thousands of businessmen were financially ruined after a panic on Wall Street. The panic was caused by an attempt to corner the gold market by Jay Gould and James Fisk.

The Davis High School Snowboard Team is having an informational meeting on Monday September 28th, at 7:00 PM in the high school library. The team is open to all high school men and women. All interested student athletes and parents come find out how much fun you can have on the snow this year!

There will be an informational meeting for all players interested in trying out for the 2016 boys' golf team on Tuesday, September 29th at 7:00 in room N-5 at Davis High. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Is the DHS Ski Team right for you?  If you are at least an intermediate skier, come find out more at the informational meeting on Thursday, October 1st at 7:00 pm in the Davis High School Library. TODAY:  Back to School Night is tonight, Thursday, September 24th.  This is an event for current full and part-time students and their parents/guardians.  Student Government will host a BBQ in the Quad at 5:15 pm.  At 6:00 pm, Principal Brown will host an introductory program in the North Gym.  Following this program, parents/guardians will be asked to attend classes according to their student's schedule.

If you are interested in learning about the United States Army, Army representatives will be on the quad at lunch on Thursday, September 24 to answer questions about the Army and provide information about college scholarships.

Monday, 9/21 was the United Nations International Day of Peace.  This year's theme is Partnership for Peace - Dignity for All.  The UN aims to create peace by using diplomacy to end conflicts and violence.  If you are interested in learning more about how the UN works or debating pressing issues, come to Model UN every Thursday at lunch in P-25, Mr. Haws' room.

Thursday, September 24th is the deadline for submitting information and articles for the October 2015 DHS PTA Newsletter.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  School pictures are here!  Come to the Career Center at lunch to pick up your picture.

Seniors! Our second float building meeting is this Friday at lunch in Mr. Achimore's room in P-21.  Come plan and volunteer to build the best float yet!  There will be pizza!  Contact Morgan Metler or Eric Smith with questions.

Picture Make-up Day will be held on Tuesday, September 29th in the West Conference room in the Library.  Order forms are available in the Front Office.  Please see Ms. Perez with any questions.

All Students - Interested in leaving the legacy of the ALL Student Center?  We are looking for your input and participation during the design and construction phases of this project.  Your commitment would be 4 - 6 lunch meetings with the committee.  FREE LUNCH is provided for committing to serving on this committee. PSAT is Wednesday, 10/14!! The cost is $24.00. There are NO Refunds and no transfers. Sales end 10/9. If you feel this is a financial hardship, please contact your counselor immediately.

ACADEMICS/CAREER/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:  NHS (National Honor Society) is starting soon!  Registration The Dairy Council of Utah and Nevada is looking for students to play Trudy Moo, the cow mascot, at Fuel Up to Play assemblies in elementary schools in Davis to promote physical activity and healthy eating. Students will receive $35 dollars for participating.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

NHS registration will run from September 21-October 2 at lunch outside of S-12.  You will need to have at least a 3.4 GPA, student ID, a transcript from last semester and $5.  Active members, please also bring your hour sheets from last semester.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) will have its first meeting of the school year Friday @ lunchtime in L-20, Mr. Wheeler's classroom.  This is a general introductory meeting, as we will be discussing elections of remaining officer positions and the purpose and direction of the club.  All Blue Devils are welcome.

Come to the very first Asian Student Union meeting this Friday, September 25th   at lunchtime.  We will be talking about our plans for the year and we will have food!

Hello comrades! We have opened the Russian Club and you are all welcome to join us to learn the Russian language and culture as well.  We meet every Thursday, P-24 during lunch.

What did Obi Wan Kenobi say to the tree?  May the forest be with you! Come to Green Team Mondays at lunch in Room C-4!

Do you have a strong desire to compete against your peers in a fun scholastic setting?  Join Academic Decathlon!  Come on out to Room T-3 this Friday, 9/25 at lunch.  There will be snacks!

Did you know that about 75% of your waste is recyclable.  Most Americans are only recycling 30%!  Don't be mean, be green! Come to weekly Green Team meetings Mondays in Room C-4.

Are you interested in a career in healthcare?  Then come to a general meeting for the Healthcare Careers Club in the Career Center on Tuesday, September 29th.  There will be food!

Attention!  The last day to register for CSF is Friday, 9/25.  Don't miss this great opportunity to join the biggest club on campus!  Remember to bring your pink sheets, $5 and last semester's report card and hours.  If you need a sheet, go to P-13, the library or the Front Office.  If you are a returning member, go to P-13 at lunch.  Hope to see you there!
