THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1886 - The Statue of Liberty was dedicated in New York Harbor by U.S. President Cleveland. The statue weighs 225 tons and is 152 feet tall. It was originally known as "Liberty Enlightening the World."

DHS Boys' Lacrosse meeting on Thursday, November 5th at 7:00 pm in DHS room N-08.  Parents and players in 9-12th grades who want to try out for lacrosse this spring are encouraged to attend.  Questions? Email davislax at gmail.com<mailto:davislax at gmail.com>.

DHS Fall Athletes! If you are planning to participate in a winter sport, stop by the Sports Paperwork Night or the Athletics Office to pick up an athletics clearance card to give your winter coach.

DHS Winter Athletes! Make sure to turn in your sports physical packets to the Athletics Office prior to the first day of conditioning or tryouts! You cannot participate without an athletic clearance card. Sports Paperwork Night one night only: Tuesday, November 3 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the North Gym lobby or come by the Athletics Office during school hours.

Winter and Spring Athletes:  Baseline testing is now available for sign ups.  Please visit the athletic web page.  Testing will be on November 5th at 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 pm. The DSHS Dance Team will be holding mid-year tryouts for the remainder of the 2015-2016 dance season.  Clinics/tryouts will be held the first week in November.  Mandatory clinics will be held on November 3rd and 5th from 6pm-8pm in the DSHS Dance Room.  Tryouts will be held on Saturday, November 7th from 2:30 pm-5pm.  If you would like to be part of the team or need further information please see Coach Perez in the Administration office.  You may also ask a current member of the team for information.  Applications can be picked up in the Administration office.  Applications are due Tuesday, November 3rd by noon.

Are you excited for Winter Ball? No?  Well you should be because the theme this year is *drumroll please* the Enchanted Garden!  Winter Ball (previously known as Junior prom) is a formal dance that is open to all classes on Saturday, December 5th from 9:00 pm - 12:00 am.  Tickets will be available starting Monday, 11/16!

Are you interested in learning more about South Korea?  Do you want an awesome summer adventure?  Then come to the Davis Cultural Exchange Club Tuesdays at lunch in Mr. Williams Room, P-14.

On Thursday, October 29, Davis Joint Unified School District Physical Education teachers and district staff will hold a meeting at Davis Senior High School to gather feedback from parents, coaches, and community members regarding the Physical Education program including Independent Lifetime Sports.  The meeting will be held in the library from 6:00 - 8:00 pm.

The Career Center still has many 10th and 11th grade student photos ready to be picked up.  If you purchased pictures during schedule pick-up in August, the pictures are available in the Career Center.

ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES:  The Stanford School of Medicine is offering two-week clinical summer internships for high school students interested in a career in Medicine. Students will take part in fascinating hands on lab activities, learn the art of diagnosis and treatment, visit the Stanford emergency life flight station, and experience the rigors and fulfillment of a life in medicine.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

Do you want the opportunity to win a delicious free lunch while helping those less fortunate?  Then get ready for the Annual Davis Senior High School Canned Food Drive.  Donate your non-perishables to your 4th period class starting next Monday, November 2nd until Friday, November 20th.  Help STEAC and win food!

Are you interested in attending Sacramento City College?  If so, Sac City is hosting a Preview Night on Thursday, October 29 from 5:00-7:30 at the Sacramento campus.  Come to this event to learn about degree and certificate programs, financial aid, getting into community college and take a tour of the Sacramento campus.  Come to the Career Center for more information.

CABIN LEADERS are needed for North Davis Elementary School's trip to Walker Creek on January 4th - 8th.  Applications are available in the Career Center.  The deadline to apply is November 4th.

Cabin leaders are needed for Korematsu Elementary's Walker Creek trip that takes place November 30-December 4.  The deadline to apply is October 28.  Please come to the Career Center for an application.

CLUBS/EVENTS:  Attention all CSF members! This Friday, October 30th at lunch in Ms. O'Brien's room, P-13 we will be holding our third meeting of the semester.  Once again, we will have more projects and opportunities to talk about more general information.  Remember, to become a lifetime member, you must have at least two meetings per semester.  Hope to see you there!

Hey, hey, hey! Do you want to be like Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris?  Then come check out the Martial Arts Club.  We will meet this Thursday, October 29th, at lunch in the Library's West Conference room.  Come learn from a real Martial Arts Master.  For more information, contact either Jack P. or Adviser Mr. Reese.  Hope to see you Thursday!

The Red Cross club is planning for the first blood drive of the year which will take place, Monday, Nov. 9th in the south gym.  Giving blood takes approximately one hour from start to finish and is safe and easy.  To donate blood, you must be at least 16, weight at least 110 and be free from cold or flu symptoms for at least 48 hours.  If interested, please sign up on the quad at lunch this week or at the nurse's office by Friday, Nov. 6.  Walk-ins are accepted only if you are 18 or older.  For more information, see Ms. Youtsey, the school nurse.

Come to the Asian Students Union meeting on Friday at lunch in L-14, Mr. Lee's classroom.  This week, we will be learning about Japan! Small snacks provided!

Avoid the regret! Avoid the impaired driving! Get behind the National Teen Driver Safety Week.  Impaired driving not only includes alcohol or drug use but also being distracted, tired or strongly emotional.  It affects judgement, reaction times and awareness.  This is especially dangerous for teen drivers who crash at 4 times the rate of adults.  Join the SADD Club to prevent the destructive decisions of teens.  Upcoming meeting dates will be announced.

Are you interested in dentistry?  Then come to the Career Center at lunch on Friday, October 30th for the meeting of the Health Care Careers Club screening.  There will be food.

Join the Spanish Conversation Group if you like speaking Spanish.  We meet every Monday at lunch in S-6, Sra. Candelario's room.  All levels of Spanish are welcome.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball. Start thinking about your intramural dodgeball team because sign-ups are due November 3rd  in N1-A !  Teams are made up of 6-9 players and winners will get a prize and ultimate bragging rights.

Club Fair applications are available in the Student Government Room (N1-A).  Applications must be returned by November 3rd by the latest.  The Clubs Fair will be on November 10th at lunch and the club with the best booth will win $100.00!

Seniors, it's that time of the year! Applications for Rent-A-Senior are now available in N-01A and are due Wednesday, October 28.

Got a cool talent?  If so, DHS Factor is right for you! This talent show is November 20th so send in your application by October 30th, next Friday.  Applications are in N-1A (old Career Center).  Don't be shy! Winners get $25 for Dutch Bros., In 'n Out Burger and free prom tickets.  Second place and third place winners get $20 and $15 respectively for Dutch Bros. and In 'n Out Burger.   Don't wait! Get your apps in ASAP!

Join Christians United!  We want to unite different denominations of Christians and also people just curious about God into a community.  This club is not a Bible study but discussion-based.  We provide a safe environment to talk with other Christians about your faith and grow closer to God.  We meet every other Friday at lunch in Mr. Miller's room, S-7.  Catholics are welcome!
