THIS DAY IN HISTORY: 1986 - Mel Fisher recovered a jar that contained 2,300 emeralds from the Spanish ship Atocha. The ship sank in the 17th century. The largest emerald recovered so far weighed 78 carats, and is on display at the non-profit Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum, in Key West, Florida.

ATHLETICS: Basketball players in grades 4th-8th are invited to the annual DHS Blue Devil Basketball Camp June 15-18. The camp is $75. per camper and will be held from 8:00 am to 12 noon in the Davis High School North Gym. For more information, visit the DHS Boys Basketball website http://www.dhsbluedevils.com.
Annual Sports Physical Clinic at Sutter Family Practice – Saturday, June 6th – 8:30-11:30 am at 2030 Sutter Place. $20 donation benefits DHS Athletics. Athletes in grades 7-12 are encouraged to get their sports physicals done in preparation for the 2015-16 school year. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS: Herff Jones will hand out caps and gowns to seniors that did not pick theirs up on Tuesday June 2nd during lunch in the quad.
Want your Yearbook? Seniors can pick them up during lunch on Wednesday, May 27th in the South Gym. Juniors and sophomores can pick them up on Thursday, May 28th during lunch. You must bring your student ID! Again, you must bring your photo ID to receive your yearbook.
Senior Awards Night is almost here! ALL SENIORS are invited and encouraged to come to Senior Awards Night on Tuesday, June 2 at 6:00 p.m. in the IPAB. This is a fun and enthusiastic event and we look forward to seeing you and your family there! Now posted in the windows of the main office and the Career Center are the names of all students receiving scholarships, awards, or special recognition at Senior Awards Night! Check the list to see if your name is on the list! Come to the Career Center if you have questions about Senior Awards Night.
Hey Link Leaders! Just a reminder for our May Development Day on Thursday, May 28 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. Please meet in the south Gym for a fun-filled afternoon. Can’t wait to see you all!
Seniors, if you missed the Senior Assembly, please stop by Mrs. Perez’ desk in the Administration building to pick up the information you missed. If you attended the assembly and have not yet turned in your request for your 4 free Graduation tickets, please do so today; without this information seating preference cannot be guaranteed.
Grad Night tickets: Tickets are $90 through this month and then will increase to $110 in June. You can purchase a ticket right now via brown paper tickets or by printing a paper ticket and mailing it in with payment. Both methods are accessible via www.davisgradnight.org<http://www.davisgradnight.org> right now. Students can purchase entrance into Grad Night at the door for $110. Committee members will be on campus during the last week of May for sales at lunch near the finance office.
ACADEMICS/CAREERS/OPPORTUNITIES: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! Explorit and the American Association of University Women are hosting an evening for girls and their parents to meet women in STEM careers (science, technology, engineering, and math). Join them for pizza at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 27 at Explorit Science Center in Davis. Come to the Career Center for more information.
The Madison Migrant Center near Esparto has volunteer opportunities for high school students at their after school migrant youth summer camp. Volunteers will help 7-14 year old migrant youth with arts and crafts, homework, computer programs, sports, field trips, and more. Come to the Career Center for an application.
Seniors: have you received any scholarships or awards not administered by the Career Center, such as scholarships from colleges or outside organizations? If so, come to the Career Center and sign the “Outside Award” list. These awards will be announced at Senior Awards Night on Tuesday, June 2 at 6:00 pm in the IPAB.
CLUBS/EVENTS: The 2015 Devil Day Car Show was a big success! The DHS Car club would like to extend a sincere thanks all those who competed and those who came out to vote for their favorite cars. Results will be announced soon.
Come see the amazing ATC, Madrigals and concert choir at their Pops Concert Choir on Thursday, May 28th at 7:00 pm in the Brunelle Theater. Donations will be accepted at the door. Come out and join the fun!
Last chance to see Jazz Choir! The Jazz Choir will cap its 2014-15 season with Jazz-N-Pops at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 6th in the Richard Brunelle Performance Hall. We will feature favorites from throughout the year as well as a fun flash-back to the ‘70s with a song and dance medley from "Jersey Boys" and lots of small group performances. Pre-sale tickets available from Jazz Choir members and at Watermelon Music ($5.00 students, $8.00 adults). All tickets the day of the program will be $10.00. The box office opens at 6:00 p.m. and doors open at 6:30p.m.
Turn in your continuing club application; this is the last week! If you don’t, next year will be bleak. Get your applications on the Student Government website. If you turn them into C-4 by Friday, everything will be all right. So if you want your awesome club to continue, fill out an app, we believe in you!
